Lauren Daigle Says ‘Joy’ Inspires Her Music
By Movieguide® Contributor
Lauren Daigle says “joy” is the thing that makes her music resonate with people.
“The people that played on this record, all the musicianship [and] the collaborative efforts of just joy and keeping music pure in the way we create — I think that’s what people really gravitated toward,” she said while walking the Grammys red carpet. “The sonic space of it all, and just the heart and soul behind it…I think that’s what landed us here.”
When asked what inspires her, Daigle answered, “People, all the way. I walk down the street and see people and…I just get uplifted. I love stories.”
She also pointed to joy again, saying she often prayed during her darker moments: “‘God, I need you to give me joy every single day because that’s the thing that will get me moving,’ so I would say joy inspires me as well.”
Daigle was nominated for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album (“Lauren Daigle”) and Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song (“Thank God I Do”) at this year’s Grammys ceremony.
Movieguide® previously reported on “Thank God I Do”:
The singer-songwriter has previously spoken about the inspiration behind “Thank God I Do.”
“I had this panic attack that lasted for like seven hours,” she told ChristianHeadlines. “And my mom and a friend sat with me through it. I’d never known what this was, I didn’t know what was happening.”
She continued, “I wrote the song right after that with [singer/songwriter] Jason Ingram…And I wrote it just because it was the clearest picture of God that I had seen in a long time. Just seeing Him love me through other people who didn’t give any element of shame or rejection or like, ‘This girl’s losing her mind.’ They were just with me in the process. And it set me free. That’s why I ended up writing a song about it.”
“QUITTTEEE possibly the BEST time I’ve ever had at the @RecordingAcad Grammys!” Daigle tweeted. “0/2 on wins but had a blast!!! I’ve learned over the years that ‘winning’ can happen each moment if you let it! Cheers to all the winners!”

During another red carpet interview, the singer-songwriter elaborated on her view of “winning” and how she views her work.
“You, as an artist, there’s this thing that you fight: ‘Was my latest creative work really valuable?’” she explained. “And this is what I’ve learned. It’s not about anyone outside of you that can fulfill that for you. It is, ‘Do I love what I did? Do I love what I put out into the world? Do I have an appreciation for it?’ And if you do that, that’s the win.”
