Lauren Daigle Says New Songs ‘Embody My Soul And My Spirit’

Christian artist Lauren Daigle spoke about the album-making process for her latest project, “Lauren Daigle.”

“I had so much fun making it,” she said during an appearance on the TODAY show. “It was one of the most cathartic processes. These songs I needed for myself. I needed to write, I needed to create.”

Daigle continued, “I know how healing they were for me, so I hope that’s what everybody else can take away as well.

The singer spoke about some of the difficulties she faced as she got back into creating music, including the COVID-19 pandemic and rediscovering the beauty in life.

“I feel like I really learned my voice again,” Daigle explained. “I needed to see the beauty of humanity again, and I found that in this record. There would be moments when I was traveling, and somebody would come up and give me a story, and it would just refresh me in a way that I can’t imagine.”

She spoke further about the album’s songs in an interview with PEOPLE, calling the project a “rebirth process.”

“Each song fell in a box of soul and spirit,” she explained. “There’s this Bible verse that says, ‘The word of God is alive and active, sharper than any two-edged sword. It can cut through bone and marrow, soul and spirit.’ And I’m like, ‘The soul and spirit, they’re so intertwined.’ Once this started to happen [as I was writing], I was like, ‘That would be a song that I would write from the soul for the soul, and this is a song that I’d write from the spirit for the spirit; these songs of heartache and longing and difficulty and joy and newness and all that, they’re coming from this soul lane, but there’s these other God songs that are also me as well.”

Daigle was so inspired by this time that she’s releasing an extended version of “Lauren Daigle” in September, featuring the original 10 songs and 13 new tracks.

“In May, I released the first 10 songs from my self-titled album. It had been a while since I had put out new music, so I wanted to share these songs as soon as they were ready to go,” Daigle said in a statement. “These 23 tracks represent all that I am–they embody my soul and my spirit. I can’t wait for you all to hear them.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Daigle’s album:

Now that Daigle is back onstage, she’s also ready to start releasing music. She recently announced the second half of her self-titled album will be released in September.

“I hope you like it, and I hope it brings you the joy that it has brought me through the course of some hard times!” she wrote in an Instagram post.

She talked about the album’s creation in more detail in an interview with Relevant Magazine.

“During COVID, there was so much despair,” Daigle shared. “I started writing these songs because I needed these songs to pull me out of that. I needed God to come and breathe on this experience for me, to remind me of how life can begin again.”
