Mark Coleman Saves Parents from House Fire: Wouldn’t be ‘Possible’ Without God

By Movieguide® Contributor

UFC fighter Mark Coleman risked his life to save his parents last Tuesday after a fire started in his family home.

“We lost everything, but with the grace of God, my higher power, I was able to somehow save my parents and myself,” he said on Sunday.

CNN gave an update on Friday: “Coleman is breathing on his own in the hospital after saving his parents from a house fire in Ohio, says his daughter Kenzie.”

The UFC legend had to be airlifted, intubated and sedated.

Coleman explained on Sunday that he had just happened to be visiting his parents when the fire broke out. He went in and out of the house four times and doesn’t know how he did it. He noted his appreciation for firefighters and mourned the loss of his dog, Hammer, who died in the fire.

The fighter says he “wouldn’t be able to live” with himself if he couldn’t rescue his parents.

“I’m the happiest man in the world,” Coleman said through tears in a video his oldest daughter, Kenzie, shared on Thursday, which showed him in a hospital bed, upright and speaking, albeit hoarsely.

“Sweet God, I’m so lucky. I can’t believe my parents are alive,” he said.

“I had to make a decision because I got out of my room and went to the door and it was already horrible,” Coleman continued with some difficulty. “I couldn’t breathe. I almost had to go outside and I went back in and got them. I can’t believe I got them but I couldn’t find Hammer.”

As he spoke, Kenzie and his other daughter, Morgan, hugged him and cried.

“God is good. Miracles do happen. Our dad is breathing on his own. We want to thank you all for the love and support from the bottom of our hearts,” Kenzie captioned the video.

Kenzie shared a dictated message from Coleman on Friday:

Hi guys! This is Kenzie again. I’m typing out what my dad has said to me in the hospital. Mark the hammer Coleman here. I want to first thank my higher power above without him, this isn’t possible. Next i want to thank each and every one of you for the prayers, support, and generosity. I always knew i had the best fans around. What you have done for me and my family is truly remarkable. I also want to thank the doctors, nurses and hospital staff who saved my life. I can’t wait to take you all along with me during my recovery journey. You are all now apart of hammer house. I’m blessed and grateful my parents and i are walking out of this alive. I encourage you to do the things you want to do, better yourself, and cherish every moment. Tomorrow is not promised. Also, it breaks my heart to say this but rest in peace to my special dog hammer. If you followed me before all of this you knew he was my sidekick and bestfriend. We spent every day together and I will miss him so much. As always…sober is cool, carnivore diet, 9 ancestral tenets. Hammer house is 4 life. Are you in now? Dont ever count the hammer out.
I love you all

On Sunday, MMA News reported that Coleman had to return to the hospital an hour after he was released due to a case of pneumonia.

“Coleman began complaining of pain and numbness in his arms and chest, leading to a return to the hospital,” MMA News said.
