The movie originally came out in theaters on July 18.

Part of Movieguide®’s review reads, “SMURFS has positive moral, redemptive messages. It extols kindness, believing in yourself, not being afraid to fail, sacrifice, forgiveness, and stepping up to fight against evil. The movie includes original music by Rihanna and blends 3D animation with Claymation, anime-inspired 2D animation, CG elements, and live action.”

“However, SMURFS is hampered by lackluster execution, making for a frustrating product and less then memorable movie,” it continued. “SMURFS also contains occult elements like magic spells, portals and evil wizards, plus action and comic violence. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older pre-teen children.”

According to Newsweek, the movie includes the following bonus features:

  • “Blue in the Booth: Voicing the Smurfs—Meet the spectacular all-star cast who voice the Smurfs.”
  • “There’s A Smurf Like Me: Blue, Old and New—The cast shares their process to bring both classic and new characters to life.”
  • “A World They’ve Never Seen: Animating Smurfs—See how filmmakers came up with the animation styles featured in the film and the evolution from rough animatic to finished art.”
  • “Composing the Blue—Award-winning composer Henry Jackman takes you through the original score that complements the film’s fun songs.”
  • “In The Club With DJ Snake—World-famous DJ Snake makes a cameo in the film and brings the party to life in the disco bash scene.”
  • “‘Higher Love’ by DESI TRILL featuring DJ Khaled, Cardi B, Natania and Subhi—Music & Lyric Video”
  • “‘Friend of Mine’ by Rihanna—Music & Lyric Video”
  • “‘Everything Goes with Blue’ by Tyla—Lyric Video”
  • “Optional English SDH and Spanish subtitles for the main feature”

The movie is also available to rent from Fandango at Home, YouTube, Prime Video, Google Play and Apple TV+.
