This Patriotic Song Got Danny Gokey Thinking About God’s Blessing
By Movieguide® Contributor
The lyrics to “God Bless the USA” have got AMERICAN IDOL alum Danny Gokey thinking, “What does it really mean to have God’s blessing?”
“Matthew chapter 5, says, ‘Blessed are the poor in spirit. Blessed are those who mourn. Blessed are the meek. Blessed are those who are merciful. Blessed are the peacemakers. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness, right? Blessed. Blessed. Blessed. Blessed. Blessed,” the artist explained on Instagram on July 5.
“Another translation says, ‘Fortunate are those,’ the singer explained. “Think about that. Fortunate are those who are bankrupt in spirit.”
On the flip side, unfortunate are those who do opposite.
“Unfortunate are those who are prideful, who fill their lives with things of the earth. Unfortunate are those who are peacefakers and don’t make peace and fight and war. That’s an unfortunate person,” he said. “Unfortunate are the unmerciful.”
“We’re seeing that there’s blessings along all these. When you get a chance, read the beatitudes in Matthew chapter 5,” he said to viewers. “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteous sake.”
Gokey points out that many are reluctant to share the Gospel in other nations where people are “unfortunate.” But anyone who is rich in mercy but lacks worldly comforts is actually the fortunate one.
“In the spirit world, the true ones that are unfortunate are those who are full of the lust of the eyes and the lust of the flesh and the pride of man,” Gokey said. “It’s time to get back to the root of scripture to say ‘God, blessed are the poor in spirit. So I realize sex, drugs alcohol, things, will never fill me up.’ It’s an unfortunate vacuum. It never fills up.”
Gokey asserts that blessing doesn’t mean only good things will happen. The blessing “comes in knowing that God is with us in them, and that we are walking in righteousness. It means less of us, but more mercy, more peace, and more of HIM … and that’s definitely what our country needs!” he wrote.
Gokey loves God and the U.S. He’s made his own cover of “God Bless the USA,” as well as a patriotic song called, “My America.”
Some of the song’s lyrics read:
I still believe in us, Oh America
You’re still the land I love though a little bruised up
Stars and Stripes still cry Liberty
Over evil over tyranny
Blood poured out
For our freedom
Sacrificed it all for this nation
I still believe in us
My America
He also has a song called “Brave” about standing up for freedom.
On July 1, he posted his song, “Brave,” with a video and said, “The 4th of July is about a LOT more than just a day to celebrate with cookouts ? & fireworks ? It’s about recognizing & standing up for the freedoms we’ve been afforded BECAUSE of this day! ?,” he said. “Don’t let fear make you back down. Keep that flame of liberty ablaze ALL year long! ?”
Gokey is about to release a new album on July 26 that will address some other topics he stands up for.
Movieguide® recently reported:
Christian AMERICAN IDOL alum Danny Gokey is going to make waves with his new album, “Sound of Heaven.”
The album “includes his usual upbeat, hope-filled songs but also includes a track that warns about the deceptive nature of evil and urges the church to ‘wake up’ to the lies society has embraced,” Crosswalk Headlines reported June 26.
