Reba McEntire’s THE VOICE Promo Teases Exciting Season Ahead

By Movieguide® Contributor

Reba McEntire made her debut for the upcoming season of THE VOICE in a recent promo video.

MSN reported, “The video opens with [Niall] Horan, 29 — who won last season — cutting into a cake that reads ‘welcome THE VOICE coaches’ as [Gwen] Stefani, 53, and [John] Legend, 44, walk through the door.”

“‘Congratulations on winning your first season my friend,’ Legend says, as Horan responds: ‘Thank you. It’s good to be king.’ Stefani adds: ‘Don’t get used to it buddy. It’s a whole new ball game.’”

“Then, the ‘All of Me’ singer says he knows ‘we all miss the cowboy,’ aka Blake Shelton, who left the show after 23 seasons in May. ‘But now that he’s gone, we might have a shot at the best country singers,’ he adds,” per MSN.

Country music starts blasting through the speakers. The judges look around in confusion to see the curtains open as McEntire stands on stage in a sparkling outfit with a large “Reba” sign behind her. “Well, hey there!” she says. “It’s just so good to be here!”

McEntire has been both a country artist and actress for many years. She joined THE VOICE to replace former coach Blake Shelton after he left to focus on family.

A recent NBC article discussed the icon’s faith, fame and name. “Reba McEntire” is her real birth name and her grandmother’s name.

“‘My grandma was a very spiritual woman. Her name was Reba Smith. That’s my mama’s mama,’ McEntire told CountryLiving.com in 2016. ‘My daddy’s mama died before my oldest sister Alice was born. Grandma Reba taught me about the love of Jesus. To me, that’s the most important thing she could’ve ever taught me,” NBC reported.

McEntire’s music career began when she was in high school.  She and her siblings, Pake and Susie, began a band called “Singing McEntires.”  She eventually found fame and even landed her own TV show, REBA, “which premiered in 2001 and focused on the struggles of a witty single mom trying to keep her family together, [and] ran for six seasons,” according to NBC News.

Season 24 of THE VOICE premieres September 25 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.

Movieguide® previously reported on McEntire’s relationship with her grandmother:

“That’s what my grandmother—Mama’s mother and my namesake—used to say when I was growing up. But she called it a special gift, a gift from God,” she explained. “I was almost as close to her as I was to Mama. Grandma used to take me fishing at a pond in her place.

“We never did catch much, but we liked to throw in our lines and sit on the pond dam while Grandma told stories, mostly from the Bible. She told me about David, Moses and Daniel, and the special gifts that God had given them, like courage and leadership, and prophecy. In fact, David was a songwriter,” she added. “I probably learned as much of my Bible going fishing with Grandma as I did in Sunday school. She taught me gospel songs and hymns so I could sing to her.

“‘Reba,’ she’d say, ‘God gives all of us our own special gifts, and he’s given you yours for a reason. Now you have to learn to use it,’” McEntire remembered.

McEntire said that the encouragement she received from her mother and grandmother helped her use her gifts to God’s glory.
