Should Christians Watch Explicit Shows?

Christian Huff and three of his friends discussed whether or not Christians should watch GAME OF THRONES and how it can harm believers’ walks with God.
The show is known for its graphic sex scenes.

Beyond the graphic sex scenes frequently included in the show, the series also includes many storylines that include incest, extreme bloody violence and multiple graphic depictions of rape that are clearly gratuitous, even from the perspective of mainstream and liberal critics.
“You run into temptation when you’re lured and enticed by your own desire, so that desire…is formed when you’re watching GAME OF THRONES,” Huff’s friend Reeves said. “Call it weak, I’m I’m not going to turn on that show,” he added.
“I’ve never watched it, and I’ve just heard so many people say that there’s like a sex scene in every other [scene],” Reeves continued. “When you allow like that crack in the door, you’re building this desire.”
Huff jumped in, saying, “I would not want to watch GAME OF THRONES with Sadie. So if…I would not want to watch that with her, with my wife, then I’m not going to watch it [with my guy friends].”
“But God, it’s like…he’s always with you, you know, like there’s no…hiding from that or…there’s no…isolating,” Huff added.
Not only does the show’s grossly immoral content damage viewers, it harms the actors as well.

Actor Kit Harington, known for his role on the viral GAME OF THRONES series, recently opened up about how the show’s gross, immoral content harmed his mental health.
The HBO epic spanned eight seasons between 2011 and 2019, but the 34-year-old actor said his mental health struggles directly resulted from the show. After filming concluded for the show’s final season, Harrington checked himself into rehab.
“I went through some mental health difficulties after Thrones, and during the end of Thrones, to be honest,” Harington told Cagle on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show. “I think it was directly due to the nature of the show and what I had been doing for years.”
Scenes from the show have been used as pornography, as Movieguide® reported:
…recent data from the X-rated site Pornhub, as reported in The Daily Mail, reveals that GAME OF THRONES not only is linked to pornography usage, but scenes from the show are being used as porn directly.
In 2016, HBO was in a legal battle with the porn website over the sites use of sexually explicit clips from GAME OF THRONES, which HBO states breaches their copyright of the content. Additionally, Pornhub reveled that Internet porn usage decreased when HBO was airing a new episode of GAME OF THRONES and only increased back to the average number of users four hours after a new episode had aired
“There are many shows that are like that,” Huff added. “All…the enemy needs is just to get his foot in the door.”
Reeves shared that he’s put major limits on his access to technology so that he can avoid falling into temptation. “I just would rather not open myself up to that,” he explained.
