Artist Steven Curtis Chapman is releasing a new hit for moms in time for their day this weekend.

“Some of you may remember hearing this song I wrote about my mom & shared around Mother’s Day last year,” the “Cinderella” singer announced. “Well, I’m very excited to finally be releasing ‘Speed of Love’ into the world as we know it!”

“Besides hopefully bringing a smile again to my sweet mom’s face and reminding her how thankful I am for her and the ways she’s impacted my life and the lives of so many, it’s also my hope that the song resonates with you and encourages all of us who are blessed to still have our moms with us to hug them tight and “love on them” well during this Mother’s Day season,” Chapman said.

He finished his announcement with a thank you to his mom, who showed him how to “live at the speed of love.”

The song’s YouTube video features fan-given photos of moms and grandmothers. Chapman said the photos represent “love, strength and sacrifice” — attributes that many of us are fortunate enough to say our own mothers possess.

Some of the lyrics are, “Band-aids on both her thumbs but she says the thorns / Are part of the roses’ beauty / She stops to pray with Francine who just lost her mom / Checks in on her neighbors as she’s headed home / At the speed…of love”

Chapman is the most awarded Christian music artist ever. He has 59 Gospel Music Association Awards, five Grammys, 49 No. 1 singles, an American Music Award, and he’s sold over 11 million albums. He has ten RIAA-certified gold or platinum albums.

On May 6, Chapman shared a photo of his mom volunteering at a community kitchen and handing a plate of food to someone.  He uses her example as a reminder to be kind to others and let them know that they matter.

Chapman also video called her to let her know that he’s releasing the song dedicated to her. He thanked her for loving on people.

“That’s why the Lord kept me here after two battles of cancer…He’s keeping me going so I can keep on shining his light out there in that dark world… [It is] very humbling and I’m just in awe of what God has done with me and you,” she told Chapman.

This Mother’s Day, you can listen to “Speed of Love” and squeeze your mom a little tighter.
