SUPERMAN & LOIS’ Final Season to Air Sooner Than We Thought

SUPERMAN & LOIS’ Final Season to Air Sooner Than We Thought

By Movieguide® Contributor

The CW channel has decided to switch SUPERMAN & LOIS’s air time from Thursday nights to Monday nights.

Per Deadline, “The fourth and final season of the CW’s SUPERMAN & LOIS will debut sooner than expected. The CW has made a change on the network’s fall schedule, with SUPERMAN & LOIS and new wild west unscripted series THE WRANGLERS moving from Thursday to Monday, swapping nights with the upcoming game shows SCRABBLE and TRIVIAL PURSUIT, which had originally been slated for Mondays.”

With the move, the final season of SUPERMAN & LOIS will now premiere sooner than anticipated.

The start date was “set for Oct. 17, [but now] the two-hour final season premiere will now premiere on Monday, Oct. 7. Since it’s been over a year since the Season 3 finale aired, having the show return a full 10 days earlier is pretty great news, even if that means that the show will likely come to an end a little sooner as well. You just have to take what you can get,” Popculture reported.

The show’s pilot episode won a Teddy® for Most Inspiring TV Program, thanks to its “strong moral, redemptive worldview told through a compelling family narrative,” per Movieguide®’s review.

The series will end after this season. Moviegiude® reported:

The CW’s SUPERMAN & LOIS is coming to an end after its fourth season.

“Over the last three seasons, SUPERMAN & LOIS redefined both the superhero genre and family drama as Tyler [Hoechlin], Elizabeth [Tulloch] and the entire cast effortlessly portrayed these classic characters with new layers of depth and complexity that had never before been explored in the Superman universe,” said Brad Schwartz, president of entertainment at the CW Network…

Deadline hypothesized that the show’s cancellation is down to budget cuts that had to be made during the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

“Those cuts impacted the writers room, which underwent downsizing for the upcoming season, going from eight writers down to five,” they noted, adding, “SUPERMAN & LOIS also is more expensive than other CW original dramas due to extensive special effects, so the cuts on the show were deeper. Only four of the 12 Season 3 series regulars, Tyler Hoechlin, Elizabeth Tulloch, Michael Bishop and Alex Garfin, are coming back for Season 4.”

Tyler Hoechlin, who plays Superman, is grateful for the role and can’t wait for fans to see how they wrap up the story.

“If it wasn’t obvious, another day filled with absolutely no fun and no love at all with @bitsietulloch,” he posted along with photos at San Diego Comic-Con. “I guess you can’t always be so lucky as to have the absolute best costar someone could ask for that you’ll greatly miss going to work and laughing all day with. You win some, you lose some. At least our characters got along.”

He can’t wait for fans to see the final season of SUPERMAN & LOIS.

“Thanks to our incredible showrunners, Todd and Brent, as well as everyone at the CW, WB, and DC for a great weekend,” he continued. “And thanks especially to all the fans that showed up to support this show – and not just this weekend, but for these past four years (eight if you count the last photo). Filled with so much gratitude and love. Can’t wait for everyone to see Season 4 of #SupermanAndLois.”
