Switchfoot Releases Re-Recorded Version Of Hit Album ‘The Beautiful Letdown’

The band Switchfoot is revisiting one of their biggest albums, The Beautiful Letdown, and sharing what it’s like to look back on the music they made when they were young.
“It’s crazy listening to the songs we wrote when we were 25,” lead singer Jon Foreman told Relevant Magazine. “I feel more relatable to them now than I did. It was a really nostalgic experience. I think I learned a lot from a version of myself 20 years ago.”
He continued, “It was cool to reflect on how much I’ve learned since then. It’s a handshake. You’re always learning new things and you’re always forgetting things. And this was a chance to marry the two.”
The new version of The Beautiful Letdown features re-recorded versions of every song on the album, note for note.
What makes this re-release even more meaningful is the fact that, upon completing The Beautiful Letdown, Switchfoot were told they were being moved from the major label they just signed with to a smaller branch of the company.
“I don’t know that we’d be a band today without that setback,” Foreman said. “It really brought us together as brothers and had to really focus our alignment and move forward. So, I would take that story any day. Yeah, even looking back, I am so thankful we got dropped.”
Switchfoot spoke about the re-release further in a statement, saying, “The journey of The Beautiful Letdown reminded us why we started playing music in the first place. It united us and gave us a deep appreciation for each other and the people that showed up to sing with us.”
The band is also going on tour in support of the re-release, telling fans on Instagram, “[We’re] playing the album from start to finish, so stoked to sing these songs with you.”
