THE CHOSEN touches people around the world, inspiring them to turn to God, but did you know the music behind these important biblical moments is carefully composed and selected as well?
In a post to Instagram, THE CHOSEN shared a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the special music.
“Now that we’re three seasons and some change into THE CHOSEN, we’ve got a little back catalog of associations that we’ve made with particular characters. So, we’ve got things to pull from,” composer Matt Nelson explained.
He played an upbeat tune on a mandolin from the moment when viewers meet Simon who later becomes Peter.
He then showed the scene was Jesus, played by Jonathan Roumie, changes Simon’s name to Peter, which means “Rock,” coming from Matthew 16:18.
“As he’s naming him Peter, that lick happens in the harps. The harps are playing that slowly as he’s naming him,” Nelson continued.

Fans of the show commented with their appreciation for the hard work and creativity the composers put into the music.
“Geniuses,” Dallas Jenkins, creator of the show, said. Another person added, “I love the music of all seasons of THE CHOSEN series. These are truly successful, deep, impressive and meaningful music.”
THE CHOSEN Season 5 will arrive in theaters this spring.
Episodes 1-2 will hit theaters on March 27, Episodes 3-5 will arrive April 3 and Episodes 6-8 will follow on April 10, The Direct said.
Jenkins previously commented on the “heartbreaking” nature of the next season, specifically as fans see Judas’ betrayal of Jesus.
“The portrayal of that in Season 5 is exciting and heartbreaking…How we portray scenes between Jesus and Judas when Jesus knows what’s coming. It’s been really fascinating to portray,” he said.
