THE CHOSEN: THE LAST SUPPER — PART 2’s weekend ticket sales have pushed the franchise’s theatrical ticket sales just shy of $100 million.

“Visually speaking, if there’s ever a season that you need to see on the big screen, it’s this one,” the show’s creator, Dallas Jenkins, told CBN. “We got the turning over the tables of the temple. We got the triumphal entry, we got the Last Supper, we got the betrayal of Judas.”

He continued, “These are big things, big themes, demands to be seen and heard in a room with other people who are going to laugh and cry together. And already the people who’ve seen these first couple episodes are like, oh wow, this is big. This is epic” (trailer via YouTube).

THE CHOSEN: THE LAST SUPPER — PART 2 opened at over $6.7 million this weekend, following the premiere of PART 1, which earned over $11.8 million, per Box Office Mojo.

These box office numbers are pushing THE CHOSEN very close to an important milestone. Collider reported that the franchise has grossed “around $95 million,” and based on these numbers, it’s safe to say the premiere of PART 3 will push THE CHOSEN over the $100 million mark.

“If you’re one of the faces we saw in theaters this weekend: thank you,” Jenkins said in a statement about the latest season of THE CHOSEN, shared with Deseret News. “Your support sends a huge message to media and makes it easier for storytellers like us to share impactful stories. It also generates more interest and eyeballs. And more important, I just hope the episodes are impacting you.”

Jonathan Roumie, who plays Jesus in the series, told UPI that he has been “super-excited” for audiences to see these episodes on the big screen.

“Our production level has just increased exponentially since when we first started and, even from last season, which was a level up from the season before. Season 5, you’ll be able to see even in IMAX theaters,” he explained. “So, I think it’s going to be quite a cinematic event. I hope it becomes a staple of the culture for many years to come.”

In an interview with the Catholic News Agency, the actor shared, “[THE CHOSEN: THE LAST SUPPER is] going to be stunningly beautiful for people to see. And we sort of present it in a very unique way, but in a way that is super powerful.”

He added, “I hope it lands the way it felt when we did it because there were moments where many of us were just kind of like wiping away the tears from our eyes right after the scene, or during the scene. It’s really truly beautiful.”

THE CHOSEN: THE LAST SUPPER — PART 2 is currently in theaters. PART 3 (Episodes 6-8) will premiere April 11.
