Legendary action film actor Tom Cruise might be making his “final” return to the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE franchise, but he won’t ever stop making movies.

“It’s the final! It’s not called ‘final’ for nothing,” Cruise told The Hollywood Reporter at the New York premiere of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – THE FINAL RECKONING on Sunday night.

While FINAL RECKONING might be Cruise’s last high-stakes mission as Ethan Hunt, he’s not planning on slowing down.

Several years ago, the actor talked about making films until he was well into his 80s, like Harrison Ford. However, Cruise has now set that goal even higher.

“I actually said I’m going to make movies into my 80s; actually, I’m going to make them into my 100s,” Cruise told THR. “I will never stop. I will never stop doing action, I will never stop doing drama, comedy films — I’m excited.”

The MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE franchise began nearly 30 years ago in 1996, and Cruise is grateful for all the memories.

“There’s been so many levels of reward with the filmmakers that I’ve collaborated with, the crews, the people, the cultures that we’ve worked in,” he said. “Everything that I’ve learned and continue to learn about storytelling, about life, about leadership, about character and every aspect of filmmaking. It’s been exceptional, it really is exceptional. I feel very fortunate to be able to make the films that I make and I love it. I love just making movies.”

He also appreciates his fans continued support.

“To be here at Cannes Film Festival, having these moments with audiences, is truly special. I am grateful to have been able to entertain you for the last 30 years with this franchise,” Cruise wrote in a post on Instagram.

In another post at the movie’s London premiere, Cruise wrote, “London, this city has been part of our journey from the start. I was so proud to share it with the remarkable cast and crew who made it possible. Thank you for welcoming us back.”

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – THE FINAL RECKONING will debut in theaters this Thursday, May 22. And while this might be the end for Ethan Hunt, Tom Cruise wants to keep entertaining audiences around the world for as long as possible.
