TOP GUN 3 Has a Date. Here’s Everything We Know So Far

TOP GUN 3 is on its way, and star Glen Powell has given new — but still vague — updates.
“I mean, I have a date,” he said when asked about the movie before adding that he would “Absolutely not” share any more information.
“In recent weeks, Powell has been hinting at a third TOP GUN movie. On the TODAY show, he said it would be ‘happening at some point,’ and he and Tom Cruise expressed a desire to work together again. Cruise made a surprise appearance at the premiere for TWISTERS, but Powell claims they didn’t speak about TOP GUN 3 there,” MSN reported.
Powell rose to fame with the franchise, starring as Lt. Jake “Hangman” Seresin. Recently, he has starred in the new disaster film TWISTERS, alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones.
TOP GUN first became a classic when it released in 1986. It followed US Navy Lieutenant Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise). “As students at the United States Navy’s elite fighter weapons school compete to be best in the class, one daring young pilot learns a few things from a civilian instructor that are not taught in the classroom,” a synopsis reads.
The sequel, TOP GUN: MAVERICK, released in 2022. Part of Movieguide®’s review reads:

TOP GUN 3 was in the works almost immediately after the sequel’s massive success.
“I’ll be there,” Jennifer Connelly, who played Penny Benjamin, said. “I’m ready. We had such a great time shooting it. It was fun.”
“It will be Tom Cruise [leading the cast],” producer Jerry Bruckheimer said. “Tom is amazing. We spent time with him. We have a story. Joe Kosinski had a wonderful story idea for it, and [Tom] said, ‘I really like that,’ so we’re developing it.”

“[Paramount] is also hoping that TOP GUN: MAVERICK director Joseph Kosinski will get back into the cockpit for another installment in the series, which would potentially see Cruise’s younger co-stars Miles Tiller and Glen Powell return for more high-altitude excitement,” Variety reported.

This announcement comes soon after Cruise signed a non-exclusive deal with Warner Bros. to develop original movies and franchises for the studio.
“That pact still allows Cruise to work for other companies like Paramount and Universal, where he’s working on a pricey film that will shoot at the International Space Station. It also gives Cruise’s company offices on Warner’s Burbank lot,” Variety reported.
