Why Reba McEntire Says She Is ‘Very Grateful and Blessed’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Country icon Reba McEntire says she considers herself “blessed” to have such a long-running career in music and TV.
“I don’t consider myself an icon,” she told Glamour. “I feel like I’m a blessed person who has more friends than I used to. That’s the way I like it. I don’t want to be something that people look up to or idolize. I just want to be a better friend.”
McEntire added that she is a “hands-on person,” doing her own grocery shopping and laundry, cooking with her boyfriend Rex Linn and keeping in touch with family and friends.
“Since I’m doing THE VOICE and HAPPY’S PLACE, I try to get a lot of rest and a lot of sleep,” she continued. “And I’m a normal person. I love to stay outside. I love to watch our birds. At one point we had 50 hummingbirds outside the house. I’m a normal person. Very normal.”

McEntire said she is “very, very grateful and blessed” to be working on her new sitcom HAPPY’S PLACE, which follows Bobbie (McEntire) as she inherits her late father’s restaurant, running it alongside the half-sister she never knew she had.
“It’s lots of fun,” she told Entertainment Tonight about the show. “I love all genres of entertainment. But the sitcoms are so much fun, cause it’s a brand new script every week. And you’re just having fun. It’s really hard memorizing dialogue you have to do, but it ain’t my first rodeo. I do love it. And it’s just playtime. We have a blast with it.”
McEntire continued, “It’s gonna be that heartfelt, fun, funny, laugh at our silliness. But also, [you’ll] be touched with the heart in our show.”
Another project the country singer has coming up? Hosting this year’s 60th ACM Awards.
“After her triumphant return this year for the 59th show, there is clearly no one better suited to helm this milestone show!” ACM CEO Damon Whiteside said in a statement.
American Songwriter reported that this will mark McEntire’s 18th time hosting or co-hosting the ceremony — “more than any other artist in ACM history.”
“In fact, Reba is gaining ground on Bob Hope as the ‘host with the most’ for any major awards show,” the outlet continued. “Hope hosted or co-hosted the Oscars 19 times between 1940 and 1978.”
