WONDER WOMAN 3 Won’t Happen Without ‘Pressure from Fans’

Original WONDER WOMAN star Lynda Carter says a third Gal Gadot-led WONDER WOMAN will not happen unless fans ask for it.

The 72-year-old shared her thoughts in an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment.

“I don’t think they want to do it unless there’s enough pressure from fans. I just don’t think they have the mind to do it,” she said. “And I don’t understand that, because it seems to me that Wonder Woman is different from other characters. She’s not just a superhero. Her whole thing is about peaceful solutions. She’s not aggressive to be aggressive. It’s a different story. It’s about inner strength, outer strength. I don’t know why they tabled it, because it’s a great franchise.”

Patty Jenkins, the franchise’s director, announced in December 2022 that there would be no future WONDER WOMAN films because they don’t align with DC Studios’ new trajectory for the DC Universe.

The Hollywood Reporter previously shared, “Sources say that Jenkins recently submitted her treatment, co-written with Geoff Johns, and that Gunn and Safran, as well as Warner Bros. Pictures co-chairs and co-CEOs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy, broke the news to the filmmaker, telling her the project — as it stood — did not fit in with the new (but still unfolding) plans.”

Deadline reported that “Carter appeared as the warrior Asteria in the sequel WONDER WOMAN 1984, which came out in 2020, and was set to appear in the third film.”

She also shared her appreciation for the attention that Gal Gadot’s reprisal of the role brought to the character.

“I have to give a lot of credit to Patty and Gal because the interest in my show had peaked when they came on the scene,” she said.

Both WONDER WOMAN and WONDER WOMAN 1984 were nominated for Teddy Bear Awards®.

Part of Movieguide®’s review for WONDER WOMAN reads:

WONDER WOMAN is an exciting adventure that’s well made, with good directing, a thoughtful story and a powerful performance by Gal Gadot in the title role. Despite the movie’s inherent feminism and references to Greek gods, WONDER WOMAN has strong redemptive, moral elements promoting sacrificial love and containing an overarching Christological allegory. However, WONDER WOMAN also has lots of action, war violence and some off-color humor. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises strong caution.

Movieguide® said of WONDER WOMAN 1984:

WONDER WOMAN 1984 is an exhilarating, exciting superhero movie with a lot of heart. The characters are well defined and engaging. The acting and direction are top notch. Even better, the movie stresses positive values, including Truth, Love, Kindness, and Joy, which overcome selfishness and greed for power. However, WONDER WOMAN 1984 contains brief though mostly light foul language. It also contains some Non-Christian pagan, mythological references. Finally, at one point, WONDER WOMAN 1984 suggests two couples have slept together. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children.
