KEVIN HART: LET ME EXPLAIN

"This Movie Is Bad: Let Us Explain"

What You Need To Know:

KEVIN HART: LET ME EXPLAIN is a documentary that follows actor/comedian Kevin Hart as he does Let Me Explain world tour. The movie jumps around and shows how much of a world celebrity Kevin Hart is in Canada and Europe. Kevin finally ends up at Madison Square Garden in New York City, where he talks about his failed marriage and other problems before 30,000 people.

KEVIN HART: LET ME EXPLAIN has many problems. It has no story, shows little continuity and most jokes are not funny. The most disturbing aspect, however, is how Kevin excuses his bad decisions. It’s one thing to laugh and learn; it’s another to laugh and pretend it’s no big deal. Kevin shows no remorse for his adultery and doesn’t even caution fans against making the same mistakes. Despite some Christian references, the movie reeks of Kevin’s egotistical self-centeredness. It doesn’t even try to encourage people to be better human beings. Worse, the movie’s vulgar content and overall bad messages were exposed to young children in the audience. KEVIN HART: LET ME EXPLAIN is an abhorrent movie.

Content:

(RoRo, FRFR, C, Pa, LLL, SS, AA, DD, MMM) Strong Romantic, somewhat antinomian, slightly Christian worldview in comic’s stand-up routine where before comic takes the stage he says a quick prayer to God, and there are a few references to “Jesus take the wheel,” but there are strong antinomian, or lawless, even pagan, elements that defend adultery, lying and breaking the law; at least 320 obscenities (including 120 “f” words) and 40 strong profanities; no violence; strong crude sexual references including discussion about oral sex and even a rape joke; no nudity; light drinking and references to being drunk; Kevin talks about taking Ecstasy with his ex-wife; and, Kevin Hart is ultimately a liar, an unapologetic adulterer and an overall bad role model.

More Detail:

KEVIN HART: LET ME EXPLAIN is a documentary that follows actor/comedian Kevin Hart as he goes on his Let Me Explain world tour and finally ends up at Madison Square Garden in New York City, where he performs for 30,000 people.

For those who don’t know, Kevin Hart was raised by a single mother in Philadelphia because his dad was a cocaine addict. He started pursuing comedy after college and used some of his life’s pains as comedy material. As his movie career started to take off, so did his stand up comedy. His “Laugh At My Pain” tour grossed more than $15 million dollars. Now, after some controversy regarding him cheating on his wife, his divorce and even a DUI, Kevin Hart sets to explain his “mishaps” with a new worldwide tour.

The movie jumps around and shows how much of a world celebrity Kevin Hart is in Canada and throughout Europe. When the filmmakers have finally established that Kevin is big deal, viewers then find themselves at Madison Square Garden where Kevin will perform his Let Me Explain routine.

KEVIN HART: LET ME EXPLAIN has a multitude of problems not even including its rampant vulgarity. First, as a documentary, the movie has no story and also has little continuity. It starts off with a scripted party scene, then goes into documentary footage of Kevin’s worldwide tour and ends with his Let Me Explain show in New York. The lack of creativity really shows. Many of the jokes and gags (including live pyrotechnics at the show) are genuinely funny, but not funny enough to pay money.

The most disturbing aspect of Kevin’s show is how he explains his bad decisions. It’s one thing to laugh and learn, it’s another to laugh and pretend it’s not a big deal. He shows no remorse for ruining his marriage and doesn’t even caution his fans to not make the same mistakes. At the end of his show, Kevin tells his audience he wants to speak from his heart. Maybe now Kevin will now say something worthwhile. Unsurprisingly, he doesn’t. He merely states that performing at Madison Square Garden was a personal dream, and, with tears in his eyes, he thanks his fans.

KEVIN HART: LET ME EXPLAIN has little or no redeeming value. Despite some Christian references, it reeks of Kevin’s egotistical self-centeredness and doesn’t even try to encourage people to be better human beings. What sickens this viewer is that the hundreds of obscenities, vulgar sexual references and overall bad messages were exposed to young children at the theater screening MOVIEGUIDE® attended. Will it be any surprise, then, that some of these children probably will grow up making the same mistakes that Kevin does? KEVIN HART: LET ME EXPLAIN is an abhorrent movie that truly intelligent and media-wise moviegoers will want to avoid.
