What You Need To Know:
SAAWARIYA is loaded with Bollywoodisms. Shots linger in glamour mode as if they were unsure if they were making a movie or shooting magazine covers. People suddenly break into song when a large group of people of the same sex are available to dance. MOVIEGUIDE® recommends caution for this movie from India, because the romance portrayed gives a false impression that love is all about physical beauty. God designed men in such ways that they can be absolutely stunned by a woman’s beauty, but this is NOT love or even true beauty. God looks at the heart, not appearances.
Content:
(RoRo, L, V, S, N, A, D, M) A strong Romantic worldview where love is based on personal appearance and infaturation; three obscenities and no profanities; one fight scene, nothing graphic; lots of proclaiming love, some characters are prostitutes, but no sexual activity is shown; brief rear male nudity in scene where man exposes himself standing on a balcony; brief alcohol use; smoking; and, dishonesty.
More Detail:
SAAWARIYA is a Fyodor Dostoevsky short story about unrequited love made into a very long Bollywood musical. MOVIEGUIDE® recommends caution because the romance portrayed gives a false impression of what true love is all about.
In SAAWARIYA, an energetic young man named Raj shows up at a bar seeking a job as a nightclub singer. He befriends a miserable prostitute and infects the community with his bubbly optimism and enthusiasm until he meets Sakina. At first glance, he falls madly in love with this woman, who is waiting for the man she loves to return from a year-long mission. For two-and-a-half hours, everyone takes turns being happy then sad, singing songs and dancing about how they feel.
God did design man in such a way that he can be absolutely stunned by the beauty of a woman. Mountain vistas are amazing and flowers can be beautiful, but God put into man a special appreciation for model examples of the opposite sex. This is NOT love. Too often movies and songs tell teenagers, “And then I saw her face, now I’m a believer, I couldn’t leave her if I tried.”
God says true beauty is a gentle and quiet spirit. Thus, God looks at the heart, not external appearances. A woman with a gentle and quiet spirit can continue to become more beautiful into her 90s and beyond. The physical beauty that turns heads eventually sags, wrinkles and fades. Love based on youthful beauty is doomed. Love as God models it is everlasting. If you “fall in love,” make sure its more than beauty shock before you make any vows.
