In SAVING CHRISTMAS, Kirk Cameron helps his brother-in-law go through all the familiar traditions of the Christmas holiday, helping him see what’s true and what’s most important. SAVING CHRISTMAS is a Christian movie with an emphasis on proclaiming Jesus at Christmas. Kirk’s sister, Bridgette, is throwing a Christmas party. Bridgette has gone all out on the party, with a huge Christmas tree, lots of ornaments, lots of presents, and lots of Christmas decorations. Even more exciting, Bridgette got someone to play Santa for the children to sit and take photos with, but really it’s just a relative. However, her husband, Christian, is not as excited as she is about the party. When Kirk enters, he is excited, but he sees that Christian is significantly less excited. At one point, Christian decides to leave the party and sneak away. Noticing this, Kirk goes to find Christian and finds him in his car in the driveway. Christian tells Kirk he’s in the car to avoid the party. Knowing that Bridgette would be saddened by this, Kirk asks for more of a reason from Christian. Christian admits to Kirk that he believes that people celebrate the traditions of Christmas rather than the real meaning, Jesus. What happens next is interesting. Kirk says he thought that too, but then he looked into the matter. Kirk ends up defending different Christmas symbols, like the Christmas tree, etc., that man has created but has more meaning than people would think. SAVING CHRISTMAS starts out with Kirk Cameron questioning modern day Christmas traditions and then explaining a way of looking at these traditions through the lens of history and the Gospel. Most of the movie is either narration or listening to the arguments between Christian and Kirk. Viewers should know that it’s not a typical narrative movie, otherwise they might be disappointed. The cinematography is off by either being out of focus or shaky. The movie also lacks a clear story line, but rather is just didactic. There are some pretty funny moments in SAVING CHRISTMAS as well as good lessons. SAVING CHRISTMAS has a Christian, biblical worldview stressing the importance of Jesus Christ. The movie highlights things that honor Jesus and stresses having a positive attitude about this special, delightful holiday or Holy Day.
