What to Watch: The Best Movies for an Action-Packed Father’s Day

TWISTERS is an adventure romance about a young guilt-ridden tornado expert who has a groundbreaking scientific idea about making tornadoes dissipate and begins a complicated rivalry with a cocky, thrill-seeking storm chaser impressed by her keen sense of how tornadoes form, grow and move. TWISTERS is a crowd-pleasing, outstanding adventure with appealing characters, good cast chemistry, a wonderful musical score, powerful drama, and a morally uplifting, redemptive story about helping people, saving lives and making sacrifices, but it has some foul language and intense scenes involving powerful, destructive, deadly tornadoes.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER tells the origin of Marvel’s first super-hero and the beginnings of his battles against Red Skull, the ruthless head of a rogue Nazi outfit trying to take over the world. Despite some foul language, CAPTAIN AMERICA delivers an inspiring, exciting patriotic punch with a lot of heart.

MAN OF STEEL brings Superman back, in a big way, in a story that pits Superman against General Zod, who wants to destroy the human race so that Earth can become a new home for the Krypton race. Super-smart and super-cool, MAN OF STEEL delivers a powerful, redemptive, heroic story with Christian content in a key scene. However, it has some foul language and intense action violence, so caution is advised.

RETURN OF THE KING, the final chapter of LORD OF THE RINGS, tells what further trials Frodo, Sam, and their friends must face in order to defeat the demonic forces led by Sauron. RETURN OF THE KING is one of the great movie masterpieces that weaves many biblical principles and allegorical Christian metaphors into a magnificent story, but it is too scary and intense for younger children.

TRANSFORMERS ONE is a spectacular animated movie about the origins of the epic battle between the Autobots and the Decepticon robots on the planet Cybertron, a battle that eventually finds its way to Earth. TRANSFORMERS ONE tells an exciting, well-written, crowd-pleasing, often funny story with amazing animation and strong allegorical situations and overt themes reflecting Biblical, Christian, morally uplifting, conservative content and values, but it has lots of strong action violence with large robots battling one another and some light foul language.

TOP GUN: MAVERICK is a great sequel to the popular 1986 hit starring Tom Cruise, where Tom’s character, an expert Navy fighter pilot named Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, is demoted and ordered to train a group of elite Navy pilots for a deadly mission to take out a uranium enrichment facility in a foreign country. TOP GUN: MAVERICK is a terrific movie, with emotionally powerful scenes, exciting action and a strong Pro-American, patriotic, morally uplifting worldview, but it’s marred by too many obscenities and three strong profanities.

LEGACY PEAK is a new Affirm Original adventure movie streaming on Pure Flix, about a man who wants to bond with his girlfriend’s children before he proposes on Christmas Eve, but, when their plane crashes in the wilderness on the way to a cabin, Jason must protect his future children from looming dangers in the wild. LEGACY PEAK is a well-made movie, with a great performance by FAST & FURIOUS actor Lucas Black, an exciting second half, and a strong Christian, moral worldview that champions God, prayer, faith, Scripture, and fatherhood.
