CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA Is Getting Sued

Yesterday morning, a copyright lawsuit was filed against Netflix and Warner Brothers for the satanic Netflix series CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA. You might be surprised to learn that a $50 million suit against the show and the studio that made it from the Satanic Temple.
The Satanic Temple claims that elements in CHILLING ADVENTURES draws on their “religious” symbols, mainly the portrayal of Satan with a goat head, in a negative way. Apparently, the Satanic Temple created a statue, referred to as the Baphomet in 2013 and 2014 which draws heavily on the iconography dating back to the 1800’s. According to the temple’s claims, CHILLING ADVENTURES features a similar one in a few scenes throughout season one.
Variety’s report on the suit details, “the statute contains several elements that make it an ‘original expression,’ and subject to copyright. The statue features two children looking up in awe at a goat-headed man-beast. The temple says the statue cost about $100,000 to design and build.”
In years past the temple has also, “sought to place its Baphomet statue alongside a representation of the Ten Commandments at the Oklahoma Capitol, and is now engaged in similar litigation against the State of Arkansas.” With experience in defending their statue, we’ll have to see if the verdict finds them in favor in the eyes of the court.
This lawsuit also brings up something important for us to ponder.
It seems that the Temple realizes the power of the media. Despite not agreeing with the Satanic Temple on anything ideological, even they understand the power of misrepresentation on a mass scale. Their efforts to file a lawsuit against CHILLING ADVENTURES show that they don’t want their practices or icon misrepresented.
However, we as Christians aren’t being silent either.

The main takeaway from news like this is to realize that the media is powerful and influential. Going forward, it important to stand by truth and abhor this type of evil present in our culture.
