AMERICAN IDOL Alum Scotty McCreery Shares Spiritual Tribute After Friend’s Death

By Allyson Vannatta, Senior Writer

Country music singer and Christian Scotty McCreery sang a tribute to late friend Yammer Greene after Greene was killed in a head-on collision.

McCreery captioned the Facebook video, “For my buddy Yameer. One of the kindest and brightest souls I’ve ever met. Everyone who knew him loved him. Love you and miss you man. Rest easy.”

The AMERICAN IDOL Season 10 winner sang Vince Gill’s 1995 classic, “Go Rest High on That Mountain,” written after the death of Gill’s brother.

The song features emotional lyrics like, “Go rest high on that mountain/son your work on earth is down/ go to heaven a shouting/ love for the Father and Son,” that McCreery sings while playing the guitar.

Yammer and McCreery grew up together in North Carolina where they both sang in church and school choir, according to The Christian Post.

McCreery is also vocal about his faith in God.

The singer wrote a book called “Go Big or Go Home” in 2016 that talked about his Christian faith and staying true to the values he grew up with while navigating the entertainment industry at a young age.

The book was published by Zondervan, which is a leading publisher of Bibles and Christian books.

McCreery and his wife, Gabi, also credit their happy marriage to their faith in God.

Fox News reports that when Gabi was on Caroline Hobby’s podcast “Get Real,” she revealed that their relationship has been a “God thing” from the start.

“It’s really a God thing that we got together. His love shines brighter through us together more than us separate. It has been so cool to see how much His love shines through us,” Gabi said.

She continued, “Our faith is a big part of our relationship. Our parents raised us both to know that we are full in ourselves on our own and that’s something I really love about us. We know who we were before we got married. We knew who we were in Christ before we got married.”

Thankfully, McCreery has his faith to sustain him during this difficult time.
