New C.S. Lewis Biopic to Highlight The Theologian’s Journey to Faith

THE MOST RELUCTANT CONVERT is a new movie adaptation about the life and conversion of theologian and author C.S. Lewis.

According to A1 Production, “‘The Most Reluctant Convert’ is an unusual film drama, based on a highly successful theatrical production in the United States. The renowned actor, Max McLean, becomes C.S. Lewis on screen in an entertaining yet life-changing journey from hard-boiled atheist to ‘the most reluctant convert in all England.'”

Max McLean, founder and director of the Fellowship for Performing Arts, will head to the U.K. to shoot the movie on location.

The movie will draw from McLean’s stage play of the same name.

“The difference about this play is it’s going to be on location all over Oxford,” McLean said. “We have full access to Maudlin College, The Kilns, the church, [and] various other places that are mentioned in the play.”

According to McLean, both writer and actor for the upcoming project, it is essential to show every stage of Lewis’s life.

“Instead of it being a one-person show, it’s going to be a multi-actor show. I’ll play the older Lewis, we’ll have a boy Lewis, a young Lewis in his 20s, cast his mother, his father, Tolkien, Barfield, Kirk, among others, and that is going to begin shortly,” McLean said.

Initially, McLean scheduled the movie’s production for 2022, after McLean’s Broadway show finished. However, due to Broadway’s closure in the wake of COVID-19, production for the movie adaptation moved up to the end of this year.

“Since our plays have all shut down, we’ve moved up our feature film adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ conversion story. That was designed to be a 2021/2022 project. Well, we’ve moved it up to September and October of this year,” McLean said. “I’ll be leaving tomorrow for the U.K. to begin shooting in mid-September (I have to quarantine for two weeks before we begin shooting).”

Lewis’ story and subsequent written works highlight the contrast between his life before and after conversion in imaginative ways.
