Dolly Parton Shares How Her Early Morning Prayer Life Helps Her Glorify God

By Movieguide® Staff

Dolly Parton said that she established a habit of getting up early to get the most out of her day, which always starts with God.

“I’m always, almost always up for good around 3 a.m. So I do some of my best spiritual work, some of my best writing, and some of my business work—call-ins and letters that I’m writing or whatever—between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. I get more work done during that little period of time when the world is calm, energies are down, and I just feel like a farmer. They say the early bird gets the worm. Well, they also get a lot of good ideas too,” Parton said.

Parton said that she treasures the early morning because it allows her to focus on God and ask Him how to glorify His name through her work throughout the rest of her day.

“I’m a very spiritual person,” Parton said. “Every single day, before I do anything, I wake up and I thank God for the night and ask Him to bless the day and to bring all the right things… all the wrong people out of my life, and bring all the right stuff in. And just to guide me, lead me. And I always pray that he’ll let me uplift mankind and glorify Him.”

Even at age 74, Parton said that she does not require very much sleep to function but has grown accustomed to taking naps.

“I don’t require a lot of sleep,” Parton said. “Three to five hours I can work on. Five hours I like to get. But usually, I’m between three and five. But usually, if I’m on the job, I’ll take a little power nap.”

Parton’s life of prayer, and naps, seem to be doing the trick, as the country music icon released her first Christmas album in 30 years. Her new holiday movie musical also premiered on the streaming platform Netflix this November.

Dolly Parton said she’s releasing her first Christmas album in 30 years to spread some holiday cheer.

“I’ve been wanting to release a Christmas album for a while now because I just love Christmas and though we started recording before the pandemic, this year became the perfect time to spread some extra joy,” Parton told Fox News.

The country icon continued: “I think the spirit of Christmas and what it truly means can spill out into our families and make this a better Christmas than ever. Hopefully, A Holly Dolly Christmas will make everyone feel holly and jolly this season.”

The award-winning musician, actress and music-producer shared the release of her new album on Instagram: “#AHollyDollyChristmas is here! I’ve never been more excited about a project in my whole career! I hope these songs bring you some joy.”
