What You Need To Know:

THE PROM is a musical playing in a few movie theaters while streaming on Netflix. The movie stars Meryl Streep, James Corden, Nicole Kidman, and Kerry Washington. The story is about four actors in New York City who decide to redeem their reputations and gain some publicity by supporting a political cause. They decide to help Emma, a teenage lesbian girl in Indiana, when the PTA cancels the prom because Emma wants to take her girlfriend. The actors end up making things worse. This failure reveals their selfishness and makes Emma want to give up. Can they redeem themselves and save the day?

When it leaves behind its superficial political melodrama, THE PROM has some lively musical interludes with energetic performances and nice melodies. Some of the songs, however, drag the story out too much. Ultimately, THE PROM is all about promoting an Anti-Christian, politically correct agenda supporting homosexuality. It not only trashes Bible-believing Christians, it also distorts the meaning of the biblical command to love your neighbor as yourself. THE PROM also mocks small-town, American values and has excessive foul language.

More Detail:

THE PROM is a musical playing in a few theaters and streaming on Netflix about a group of narcissistic Broadway actors who decide to help a lesbian teenage girl in Indiana when the PTA president cancels the high school prom because the girl wants to bring her secret girlfriend. When they’re not singing about how wonderful it is to be homosexual or how evil Bible-believing Christians and Indiana are, some of the songs in THE PROM have nice melodies, but the movie is an uneven, abhorrent, politically correct diatribe supporting perversion.

The movie opens with Mrs. Green, the PTA president of James Madison High School in a small Indiana town, leading a movement to cancel the high school prom. The reason for the cancellation. A high school student named Emma, who lives with her grandmother, wants to bring her secret girlfriend to the prom. Since they can’t ban Emma from attending the prom, the PTA has decided to cancel the prom altogether.

Cut to Broadway in New York City. Dee Dee Allen (Meryl Streep), a two-time Tony Award winner, is playing Eleanor Roosevelt in a new play. Her homosexual friend, Barry Glickman (James Corden), is playing President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. After the opening performance, their play, including their performances, are trashed by all the critics except for one. Dee Dee and Barry drown their sorrows at the bar where the after play party was scheduled. They find a sympathetic ear in the bartender, Trent (Andrew Rennells), an out of work actor, and a chorus girl named Angie (Nicole Kidman). Angie just quit a long run doing the musical CHICAGO because the producers repeatedly kept overlooking her when it came time to recast the lead.

After singing about narcissism, Dee Dee and Barry conclude that what they need to repair their image is a cause. World hunger is too big, but Angie finds a news report about Emma’s prom being cancelled because she wants to bring her girlfriend. Outraged by this anti-homosexual decision, Dee Dee, Barry, Angie, and Trent decide to travel to Emma’s Indiana hometown to lend her their support.

Meanwhile, the movie reveals that Emma’s secret girlfriend, Alyssa, is actually the PTA president’s daughter. Alyssa hasn’t revealed her homosexuality to her mother yet, however. In fact, attending the prom with Emma was supposed to be Alyssa’s big public reveal. Also, Emma’s principal, Tom, disagrees with the PTA’s decision and encourages Emma to complain to state officials.

Dee Dee and her friends arrive to attend another PTA meeting to support Emma. They intrude by performing a big musical number in favor of Emma. At first, their efforts to help Emma seem to succeed, but they end up making things worse. This failure reveals their selfishness and makes Emma want to give up. Can Dee Dee, Barry, Angie, and Trent redeem themselves and save the day?

When the characters aren’t singing musical anthems promoting homosexual perversion, THE PROM has some lively musical interludes with energetic performances and nice melodies. Also, the movie starts out a little campy and even makes fun of celebrities who try to insert themselves into current sociopolitical debates. However, it soon turns deadly serious to the point of superficial political melodrama. Finally, some parts of the movie slow down the plot.

Ultimately, THE PROM is all about promoting an Anti-Christian, politically correct agenda supporting homosexual sin. Also, Trent finally convinces the other students that the biblical command Love thy neighbor “trumps” all the other moral teachings in the Bible. Of course, the same God who commands us to love our neighbor in Leviticus 19:18 is the same God who also commands us to reject adultery, incest, homosexuality, and child murder in Leviticus 18:1-30. In Chapter 12 of Mark, Jesus tells a teacher of God’s law that the two greatest commandments are love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength and love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus never says that love your neighbor replaces or trumps God’s other commandments. In fact, as Christ’s disciple Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 13:6, “Love does not delight in evil.” In reality, Trent’s song about love isn’t very loving toward people who disagree with his moral opinions or those of the LGBT crowd. In fact, his song is actually rather hypocritical.

THE PROM not only attacks Christian, biblical values and distorts Scripture. It also mocks small-town, American values as being oppressive. Finally, the movie has an excessive number of obscenities and profanities, plus a quick line where Emma is encouraged to take Xanax to get rid of her anxiety.

THE PROM is a misguided message movie created by self-righteous Christophobes.
