6 Memes About THE CHOSEN That Make Us Laugh

By Jessilyn Lancaster, Managing Editor

One of my absolute favorite things about THE CHOSEN is how it brings the Bible to life in a way I never imagined before. Jonathan Roumie’s portrayal of Jesus even won him the Grace Prize® at the 2020 Movieguide® Awards Gala and Report to the Entertainment Industry.

In my initial reflection, I called him “Sassy Jesus,” and much of THE CHOSEN feels the same way: Light hearted but emotionally stirring. Jesus wasn’t necessarily super serious all the time, so why do filmmakers seemingly always portray Him as morose?

That same attitude also permeates the series’ social media pages, but not everyone likes it — or the series.

Instead of letting the negative feedback weigh them down, the team has turned the comments into memes. To be clear, there are lots of super positive memes with very affirming feedback and sweet quotes from the show, but I personally enjoy the ones hashtagged #ChosenFeedback.

The following memes are some of my favorites. Enjoy them with me as we wait for the fully-funded season 2 to hit thechosen.tv app.

Um… the show is free.

We’re not sure if we should feel insulted or complimented by this one, but the first step would be to understand it.

Which we don’t.

Our #JediJesus meme rubbed a few people wrong… a Chosen Baby Yoda meme would cause riots.

We didn’t count on the “devil worshipper” demo, but we’ll take it. #Chosenfeedback

Now more than ever we’re bombarded by darkness in media, movies, and TV. Movieguide® has fought back for almost 40 years, working within Hollywood to propel uplifting and positive content. We’re proud to say we’ve collaborated with some of the top industry players to influence and redeem entertainment for Jesus. Still, the most influential person in Hollywood is you. The viewer.

What you listen to, watch, and read has power. Movieguide® wants to give you the resources to empower the good and the beautiful. But we can’t do it alone. We need your support.

You can make a difference with as little as $7. It takes only a moment. If you can, consider supporting our ministry with a monthly gift. Thank you.
