Benson previously starred in faith-filled projects like LIFE WITH DOG and WHEN WE LAST SPOKE, as well as the popular television series PSYCH and LA LAW.

Actor Bailey Chase, known for LONGMIRE and BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, will also join the growing cast.

According to Variety, LEFT BEHIND: RISE OF THE ANTICHRIST is a sequel to the 2014 LEFT BEHIND, which starred Nicolas Cage.

The film is slated for a theatrical release in October 2022.

Paul Lalonde, the movie’s producer and co-writer said of the movie: “We are seeing a renewed and overwhelming interest in the end times, and when you look at the world today, it’s really not surprising.”

“The first was in the 1970s when Hal Lindsey’s book ‘The Late Great Planet Earth’ became the number-one selling non-fiction title of the decade. The second was around the turn of the millennium when the ‘Left Behind’ book series exploded onto the New York Times bestseller list and the first ‘Left Behind’ movie held the title of the number one selling independent film in the first year of its release.

“What made those times unique? Uncertainty was part of it,” Lalonde continued. “Uncertainty brought on by a fear of the unknown and a loss of trust in those we once thought to be watching out for us. In the 70s you had so many things happening that parallel what we are seeing today, only now it’s times ten.”

Actor Kevin Sorbo is set to star in and produce a new movie adaption of the iconic book series “Left Behind.”

“I’ve known about the ‘Left Behind’ books forever,” Sorbo told Faithwire in an exclusive interview. “There was no way that anything else was going to get in the way of me wanting to be a part of this.”

“I love movies like this. I love movies that have hope, redemption, laughter, and love, and things that we need more than ever in this world — in this crazy, divisive world we live in,” the HERCULES actor added. “And we’re hoping a movie like this will be a positive impact on people around the world.”

Sorbo said that his movie would consider current events that have affected people on a global scale.

“I think it’s a grittier feel to it. The world’s a whole different place right now. … it feels like the rapture’s just down the road right now,” Sorbo said. “The Sodom and Gomorrah we’re living in right now.”

However, Sorbo noted that the ultimate goal is to point people to hope.

“There’s still hope out there,” he said.
