Will Chris Pratt Replace Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones?

By Movieguide® Staff

With news of the upcoming INDIANA JONES movie, many fans speculated who would play “Indy” and if someone would take up the mantle after Harrison Ford’s iconic performance across four movies.

In 2021, fans thought that actor Chris Pratt, who starred in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and JURASSIC WORLD star fit the bill.

However, Pratt recently put those rumors to rest during a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast.

“I don’t even know who Steven Spielberg is. Who? Steven Who?” Pratt joked. “No, aren’t they doing ‘Indiana Jones’ with Harrison Ford? All I know is I once saw a quote from Harrison Ford and I don’t even know if it was really him but it was enough to scare me, that was like, ‘When I die, Indiana Jones dies.’ And I’m like, am I gonna get haunted by the ghost of Harrison Ford one day when he dies if I play…?”

Pratt referenced one of Ford’s interviews with TODAY, where the STAR WARS actor said that no one else would be able to carry on his legacy.

“Don’t you get it? I’m Indiana Jones. When I’m gone, he’s gone. It’s easy,” he said in 2019.

But it appears that Ford will, in fact, star in the fifth installation directed by James Mangold.

Movieguide® previously reported:

Lucasfilm announced that Waller-Bridge will join the cast of the fifth movie in the INDIANA JONES franchise that has yet to be titled.

Director James Mangold, known for Oscar-winning FORD V FERRARI and Marvel’s LOGAN, will take over for Steven Spielberg for the fifth installation. Spielberg will produce the movie, and iconic composer John Williams will also return.

“I’m thrilled to be starting a new adventure, collaborating with a dream team of all-time great filmmakers,” Mangold said in a statement. “Steven, Harrison, Kathy, Frank, and John are all artistic heroes of mine. When you add Phoebe, a dazzling actor, brilliant creative voice and the chemistry she will undoubtedly bring to our set, I can’t help but feel as lucky as Indiana Jones himself.”

The INDIANA JONES franchise is one of the most popular in Hollywood history, grossing $279 million at the box office across four films.
