Twitter Tests New Edit Function for ‘Twitter Blue’ Subscribers

By Movieguide® Staff

Twitter recently announced a plan to offer the ability to edit posted tweets, but only for their premium service, Twitter Blue.

The social media giant said they are running tests and want to implement the highly requested feature alongside their premium subscribers.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, users can edit an already posted Tweet for 30 minutes after posting.

The new edit feature will also include past revisions of the original Tweet that followers can access.

Twitter revealed they are testing the new feature within a small cohort of users to work out potential oversights and flaws.

“This includes how people might misuse the feature,” Twitter wrote in a recent blog post. “You can never be too careful.”

Not only will users have access to the list of edits, but the edits will also be timestamped. Twitter said that this function encourages “integrity of the conversation.”

“They help protect the integrity of the conversation and create a publicly accessible record of what was said,” the blog post reads.

The feature is an interesting addition to the platform. However, the outcome remains unclear considering the company’s past with bans and suspensions.

Movieguide® previously reported:

Shortly after the Capitol Hill riots on Jan. 6, Twitter announced the “permanently suspension” of President Donald Trump’s account.

The social media platform released an analysis that accused Trump’s account of a “risk of further incitement of violence” and referenced two tweets in particular:

“The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!”

“To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on Jan. 20.”

In their statement, Twitter said the two tweets violated their Glorification of Violence Policy and, in context, justified the account suspension.

“These two Tweets must be read in the context of broader events in the country and the ways in which the President’s statements can be mobilized by different audiences,” the statement reads.

However, Twitter’s reason for barring Trump did not contain any substantial evidence. Unfortunately, the ban set a precedent that allowed Twitter—and other big tech companies like Facebook, Google, Apple and Amazon—to accelerate their crackdown on conservative voices across their platforms.
