Viral ‘Corn Kid’ Named Official ‘Corn-bassador’ of South Dakota

The internet’s latest star, Tariq the “Corn Kid,” just got a cool new job. The 7 year-old was just named South Dakota’s official “Corn-bassador.”
Tariq came to the world’s attention after being featured in a Recess Therapy video posted to YouTube. In the video, he expressed his love for corn, and the video quickly went viral.
“I mean just look at this thing,” Tariq said in the video, holding up his corn. “I can’t imagine a more beautiful thing, it’s corn!”
The clip blew up on TikTok — his comments were even made into a song — and Tariq is now one of the internet’s most famous faces.
Earlier this month, Tariq was named “Corn-bassador,” and even got his own holiday. South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem named September 3 “Official Corn-bassador Tariq Day.”
“Whereas, South Dakota is one of the top corn producers in the nation, providing nourishment across the globe but especially to Tariq, a 7-year-old boy who recently discovered that corn was real,” the governor’s declaration read, “… it is fitting and proper as Governor to make special note of outstanding young man.”

Tariq and his family traveled from New York to South Dakota’s Corn Palace for the honorary ceremony.
The 7 year-old couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw the famous Corn Palace, calling it “a dream come true!”
Hopefully, Tariq’s love of corn will encourage kids all over to eat their vegetables!
