Gina Carano on Pressure to Conform to Disney’s Beliefs Pre-Firing: ‘I Said I’m Not Doing This’

By Movieguide® Staff

Actress and MMA fighter Gina Carano recently added insight into her firing from the Disney+ show, THE MANDALORIAN, and how Hollywood shunned her for standing up for her beliefs.

“When I wouldn’t hashtag trans rights, I wouldn’t put my pronouns and like they kept on it, pressuring, and finally, I just said, ‘I’m not doing this,’” Carano told Tucker Carlson of Fox News. “I didn’t even know what people were talking about. I was just not clued into the pronouns thing, which apparently has been happening for like seven, eight years now, right?”

After pressure from Lucasfilms and Disney to adhere to their LGBTQ+ agenda, Carano said that her opinions on mask mandates and lockdowns are what pushed the company over the edge.

“I was speaking out about lockdowns, masks, vaccinations and pronouns way before anybody was even saying a word about it. I was a little bit ahead. I’m sure if I would have done that now it wouldn’t have been a big deal,” Carano said. “But I was talking about this when nobody else was talking about it, especially nobody else in my industry.”

“Lucasfilm called me and they were like, ‘Okay, we’re gonna need you to get go on a zoom call with 45 of our LGBTQ community and we have to get you on the phone with these people,” she added. “We need to have you watch the media and have you watch all these movies about trans lives. I was like, ‘Okay, I’ll watch your documentaries, and I’ll talk to your people, but I’m not going to get on a zoom call with 45 different people who can have their phones out videotaping me.’ I feel like that’s extremely abusive.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Carano’s new business agreement with the Daily Wire and her new movie, TERROR ON THE PRAIRIE:

Actress and former MMA star Gina Carano recently shared about her abrupt firing from THE MANDALORIAN and landing a spot in The Daily Wire’s TERROR ON THE PRAIRIE.

In her new role, Carano plays a tough pioneer mother who protects her children while her husband is away. The actress also serves as a producer on the movie.

“I’ve always wanted to do a period piece and be put in a dress, right?” she laughed. “My favorite movie when I was growing up was PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. I love those kinds of movies. And I’ve always wanted to have a horse in a movie. So when that script came across, I was like, ‘Well, this checks a lot of those boxes for me.’”

She continued, “I was also really fascinated by the family aspect of it and being on the frontier. They’re having to fight all the time to stay alive. They’re fighting the elements. They’re fighting the outlaws. They’re even fighting each other at some point.”

Carano also spoke about what being “canceled” felt like when she was fired from THE MANDALORIAN.

“When I was canceled, I felt like everything was turned against me,” she explained. “Everything that I loved was just against me. I was fighting for my name. I just felt like everything was stripped from me. But Hattie [her TERROR ON THE PRAIRIE character], she’s out there with her family. She’s trying to be a supportive wife, but she’s removed from her home and it’s hard. Everything has been stripped from her. The elements have turned against her. She and her husband aren’t in the best place. They’re arguing back and forth and the baby’s crying.”

“I just felt it was a really good time for me to access the pain that I was feeling in my personal life and wear it quietly,” the actress continued. “Because that’s how I felt inside. It was nice that the character had that in it, and I could kind of use that as therapy, just to let my hurt show in a way that I was doing in life anyway. I think it really added to my character.”
