Christian artist and “My Jesus” singer-songwriter Anne Wilson is sharing the emotional story behind her latest single, “Seventh of June.”
“It was pretty hard,” Wilson said about this year’s June 7. “I was just off. I didn’t get on my phone, didn’t answer text messages or anything.”
Wilson’s 23-year-old brother Jacob died in a car accident on June 7, 2017.
“He was my best friend,” Wilson said. “He was such a kind person. He would never talk bad about anyone. He was the life of a party and always went out of his way to include people that were being left out. He was always that person that you could go to, and you just know that you could trust him. He was an incredible person.”
The singer shared that, in the immediate aftermath of his death, her family tried to keep themselves busy and distracted. Now, she understands how important it is to “grieve properly.”
Part of Wilson’s grieving process was writing “Seventh of June” and filming an emotional music video for the single.
“It’s about facing the fact that Jacob’s gone,” she explained of the song and video. “I think being able to face that helped heal me and also helped convey the emotion in the video, along with the severity of it.”
She continued, “Jacob is with me all the time, even though I can’t see him, and I don’t feel him. When I saw the video and how it turned out, it was just insane. It was just such a cool moment to have.”
Wilson elaborated on the inspiration behind the song in an Instagram post, writing, “I wanted to be transparent about the process of grief. How it comes in waves and on anniversaries…how it spills out in tears. I have learned that the blessing is having Jesus to weep with you…to hold you, to give you supernatural peace that only He can give.”
“At my lowest times and my darkest days, the Prince of Peace is there to encourage me and to catch my tears,” she reminded her followers in another post.

Anne Wilson, “My Jesus” singer-songwriter, recently shared how God used the tragic death of her brother in 2017 to launch her music career.
“Losing Jacob changed everything for me,” she said in a recent CBN interview. “I gained a new perspective on life that I had never had. I realized how short these years on earth are, that heaven is the final destination, heaven is where I want to work towards. I want to tell people about Jesus. I want to work as hard as I can to introduce Jesus to as many people as I can.”
Movieguide® previously reported on how Wilson grew closer to God through that difficult time: “Instead of turning from Him, we chose to walk closer to Him through that time,” she shared. “So I became on fire for the Lord and we just chose to trust Him. We saw the Lord do a lot of really incredible things and [He] was just so faithful and kind to me and my family and it was such a sweet season.”
