Disney Marks 150,000 Wishes Granted Through Make-A-Wish Foundation

Disney has just reached a major milestone — 150,000 wishes granted through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

“We’re so proud of the relationship that we’ve had with Make-A-Wish for almost 40 years now. And it’s a special relationship,” Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Parks, said. “These places that we have are places that families come to forget about the world around them and dream and create memories.”

Leslie Motter, Make-A-Wish America’s President and CEO, added, “As the number one wish granter for our organization, Disney is helping deliver joy when it’s needed most.”

Disney and Make-A-Wish celebrated this milestone with a royal ball, the Once Upon A Wish Party, the biggest wish-giving event ever at Disney World.

According to Disney World’s website, “The event featured more than 30 iconic Disney Princesses and characters, a tea party in Wonderland and a royal ball. Wishes often have the power to renew hope and uplift spirits of children facing critical illnesses, and experiences like Once Upon A Wish Party can be transformative for the entire family. Each child attending wished for something related to a Disney Princess and had their wishes come true.”

“It just exceeded my expectations completely. Honestly, all I can say is just thank you from the absolute bottom of my heart. I’m literally so grateful. This would have not happened without Make-A-Wish and Disney,” one participant shared.

“Granting wishes and making magic is some of the most important work that we do here at Disney – it’s kind of at the core of who we are. Our cast members are so proud to help make all of these wishes come true,” D’Amaro explained. “We’re so humbled that so many kids choose Disney for their wish. We’re Make-A-Wish’s top granter – a lot of kids just want to come here – and we do not take that responsibility lightly.”

Make-A-Wish’s mission is to “create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.”

“A wish experience can be a game-changer for a child with a critical illness,” the foundation’s website states.

Movieguide® previously reported on another Make-A-Wish record-setter, John Cena:

John Cena can add a new title to his list of accolades: the WWE star and actor was just named the Guinness World Record holder for the most wishes granted through the Make-A-Wish foundation.

Cena made wishes come true for 650 children. He started working with the foundation in 2002, and has been the leading wish-granter for years. Make-A-Wish stated that no other person has granted more than 200 wishes in their 42 year-history.

Make-A-Wish also shared that Cena is the most requested celebrity.

“If you ever need me for this ever, I don’t care what I’m doing, I will drop what I’m doing and be involved because I think that’s the coolest thing,” Cena said of his long partnership with Make-A-Wish. “I just drop everything.”
