Vikings QB Kirk Cousins Wants to Glorify God This Season

By Movieguide® Contributor

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins is looking to glorify God ahead of his 12th season in the NFL.

Last March, Cousins revealed on the Sports Spectrum Podcast that his family would pray Ephesians 3:20-21 over his career.

“Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen,” the verses read.

“I look back now with a sample size that’s much larger with the number of years we’ve been playing, and you can see the times that that prayer has been answered,” Cousins stated on the podcast.

“Cousins has long been outspoken and unashamed of his faith in Christ. The man who wakes up early to commune with God — who prays before, during and after games, who regularly shares his faith with teammates in the Vikings locker room — boldly shared the Gospel at February’s Super Bowl Breakfast after receiving the 2023 Bart Starr Award honoring football success and the Christian faith,” Sports Spectrum wrote.

Additionally, Cousins has declared that God will be glorified regardless of the Vikings’ season.

“It’s the losses where you’re reminded that I don’t know what I’m doing, and I need help, and God’s gonna have to be bigger than my shortcomings and my inadequacies,” Cousins expressed while on the podcast. “So, both the wins and the losses become great opportunities to recognize who God is in your life.”

Cousins was selected by the Washington Football Team (formerly the Washington Redskins) in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

“At the beginning of the 2015 season, Kirk was named as the starting quarterback. They went on to finish 9-7 as NFC East Division Champions that season and made their first trip to the playoffs in four years,” his website shares.

“He’s been named to four Pro Bowls overall and three of the last four, passed for the second-most yards of any of his professional seasons a year ago (4,547) and led the Vikings to the playoffs twice after signing a massive contract with the team in 2018,” SportsSpectrum added.

Cousins describes himself as a “Believer” on Instagram, and his bio includes the Bible verse, Micah 6:8, which reads, “No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you, to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”

On September 10, Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home as they vie for a chance in the playoffs.

Movieguide® previously reported on Cousins’ faith:

Minnesota Vikings starting quarterback Kirk Cousins revealed how he views his losses as opportunities to thank God on a recent Sports Spectrum podcast.

“I recognize my faith more in a loss,” Cousins said, reflecting on one of his first losses during his college football career. “I think in a win sometimes you start to say ‘I got this. I know what I’m doing. I got this figured out.’”

“It’s the losses where you’re reminded that I don’t know what I’m doing, and I need help, and God’s gonna have to be bigger than my shortcomings and my inadequacies,” he continued.

He revealed, “I found myself almost in a moment of peace in that chaos to say, ‘I’ve got an anchor. I’ve got a foundation.’”
