Auburn Coach Hugh Freeze Declares God’s ‘Love Never Changes’

After a scandal several years ago, Auburn University head football coach Hugh Freeze has trusted God with his team’s season and points his players to Christ.
In a previous coaching position at Ole Miss, Freeze was forced to leave after his involvement in a recruiting scandal. After that, he faced the consequences of his actions but knew there was only one person to look to for help: Jesus.
“When my walls came crumbling down around me, the faith that I stand on through the Son of God, Jesus Christ — it is a solid rock. A solid foundation. And when all hell is breaking loose around you and everybody has their opinion about what is going on, and you know that you’ve hurt the heart of God, His love never changes. Ever,” Freeze said in 2018, Freeze at Liberty University, recalling his actions at Ole Miss.
“My mind is set,” he declared. “It is settled. My eyes are clear. My heart is full. My feet are pointed forward. And I am looking forward, with thanksgiving, to what God has for me and my family next because of His great love, and His great forgiveness.”
In 2021, Freeze told Sports Spectrum, “I’m much more easy to give grace and mercy (after receiving it from God).”
“Integrity is not always getting it right, or none of us would have it,” he continued. “To me, it’s when you don’t get it right. You own it, you accept whatever consequences come with it, you make the necessary changes, and you play the next play. That’s Peter. That’s Paul (of the Bible).”
God has transformed Freeze’s life, and now, at Auburn University, the coach continually points young adults to Christ.
At a recent “Unite Auburn” worship event, Freeze helped baptize students.
In a video posted on X, the coach baptizes one of his players who decided to follow Christ.
“GOD is moving in Auburn!!! Students, athletes, and whoever are giving their lives to Jesus and getting baptized at the Red Barn,” the caption read.

“Auburn will open SEC play on Saturday on the road at Texas A&M (12 p.m. ET on ESPN). Following that, the Tigers will have three consecutive matchups against teams currently ranked in the top 15 nationally. One of these is hosting No. 1 Georgia on Sept. 30 and another is hosting the team Freeze coached from 2012-2016, No. 15 Ole Miss, on Oct. 21,” Sports Spectrum reported.

Auburn University senior Michael Floyd said, “I’ve seen Auburn basketball beat Kentucky, I’ve seen Auburn football beat Alabama, but I have never seen something like I did on Tuesday night,” per Fox News Digital.
According to WSFA Montgomery, “Even Auburn Tigers head football coach Hugh Freeze got in the water to help. Floyd said one of Freeze’s players wanted to be baptized, but he didn’t want to do it alone. That’s when his coach waded into the water to help.”
Another Auburn senior, Kenzie Gay, told Fox News, “It was one of the most beautiful things I had ever gotten to witness, because there was such a genuine joy and sense of peace in the air. I would look back toward campus and constantly see mobs of flashlights from more students that were running to come to join the crowd.”
