Final MAGNUM P.I. Episodes to Air Starting Next Month

By Movieguide® Contributor

MAGNUM P.I’s final 10 episodes will air on NBC starting October 4.

Movieguide® previously reported on the decision to conclude the series:

MAGNUM P.l. is coming to an end as NBC announced they would not be renewing the show past season 5.

The decision to end the show came a year early as the options on the cast were due to expire on June 30th. The show, however, will have new episodes releasing through the 2023-2024 season before coming to a close.

With the ongoing writer’s strike, networks have been very conservative with the shows they have continued to produce, passing on many pilots and dropping most bubble shows. With no knowledge of when scripted shows can begin production again, the network opted to cancel the show rather than renew early.

The show’s fifth season was already split into two ten-episode parts, a loophole that allows networks to avoid giving show creators and cast members an annual salary increase.

“Buckle up, ohana. ? we’re in for a wild ride. #MagnumPI returns October 4 on @nbc and streaming on @peacock,” MAGNUM P.I.’s Instagram wrote in a post sharing the trailer.

Fans are not ready to see the show come to a close. One fan wrote, “I’m in it for way more than just 10 episodes. How about y’all get that renewal ready?”

Another fan commented, “This is ?, but it can’t be the end. Please tell us NBC will reconsider and renew the cast contracts and bring the show back for Season 6 after all the strikes are settled! It is just so illogical that their contracts were not renewed in June.”

In the Season 5B premiere, “Magnum and Higgins (Jay Hernandez and Perdita Weeks) go to work for a dangerous and controversial client, while Kumu (Amy Hill) and Shammy (Christopher Thornton) help move TC (who got shot in the Season 5A finale) to a veterans’ rehab facility,” TV line reports.

“In subsequent episodes, Magnum and Higgins help a friend of Kumu’s who lost her life savings to a scammer, TC becomes increasingly frustrated at the lack of progress in his recovery, Magnum and Higgins enlist Katsumoto (Tim Kang) to go undercover when a chef at a high-end restaurant goes missing (Hernandez and Weeks teased this a small eternity ago), and Kumu’s work with Cade (Martin Martinez) at the Cultural Center delves into one of America’s darker chapters—the internment of Japanese Americans in the wake of Pearl Harbor,” TV Line adds.

Yahoo! Entertainment reports, “The season’s first 10 installments aired earlier this year, beginning in February. The Hawaii-based drama, a reboot of the ‘80s drama starring Tom Selleck, was canceled by NBC earlier this year.”
