SOUND OF FREEDOM’s Mira Sorvino Celebrates Motherhood on DWTS

By Movieguide® Contributor

DANCING WITH THE STARS contestant Mira Sorvino got to “live out another dream” on the dance competition show — performing with daughter Mattea.

“I am so excited because, this week, I get to live out another dream which is to dance with my daughter,” Sorvino told Entertainment Tonight. “Gleb [Savchenko, DWTS pro] choreographed this incredible dance to ‘Time After Time’ about the love between parents and a daughter and, you know, her going away and coming back but love always returns and we always end up together in the end. And it’s really beautiful.”

Having Mattea join her for the routine made sense, as her daughter loves to dance.

“I love watching my kids perform,” Sorvino told Us Weekly. “My oldest girl, Mattea, is a serious dancer/choreographer, my sons, Johnny and Holden, wow on the baseball field, and my 9-year old [daughter], Lucia, is fearless with a song and a mic.”

The dance routine was part of DWTS’ “Most Memorable Night” theme, which saw Sorvino celebrating the year 2004.

“That’s the year I got married to my husband, Christopher Backus, and that’s the year we had our first child, Mattea, and my life changed forever for the better,” the SOUND OF FREEDOM actress explained. “My heart just grew 10 times, and I just love my children, my family, so much. And to have my daughter here today, it’s just mind-blowing!”

Sorvino and Backus have been married since 2004, just a year after they started dating. The couple share four children — daughters Mattea, 18, and Lucia, 11, and sons Johnny, 17, and Holden, 14.

“Because of my husband and my children, I feel like the luckiest woman in the world, and I just want to cherish every minute we have together,” Sorvino told PEOPLE.

Sorvino was eliminated on the Oct. 25 episode.

Movieguide® previously reported on Sorvino:

SOUND OF FREEDOM actress Mira Sorvino credits her late father, actor Paul Sorvino, for making her a better actress.

“If I was acting, he’d be really, really harsh,” Sorvino told Fox News. “But in a kind way.”

The actress said he would tell her, “Mira, that was wonderful. I just have two notes,” adding, “And then he would sit me down for two hours and break down the entire performance bit by bit…tell me where I was wrong.”

“He still was loving about it,” Sorvino said. “With acting he was very calm and kind. But super honest.”

Sorvino went on to say that her father was “always so loving” and “so encouraging…just like I am with my children.”

“I think they’re the best in the world,” the actress shared. “If you really love your kid…you see them in the most positive possible light.”
