Danica McKellar’s Unusual Advice for Beating Stress: ‘Say Weee’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Actress Danica McKellar recently shared an unusual tip for anxious people—just “throw your hands up and say ‘weee.'”

“One [trick] that I’ve come up with is called the ‘weee’ exercise. I know it sounds silly,” McKellar shared on Great American Community. “So you know how roller coasters—those big scary ones, the ones that like go upside down and take you into twists and turns? Well, okay, those can be very scary for some people, especially those who…hold on tight and are worried about what’s going to happen next.”

“They don’t know what’s coming around the next curve or the next drop, [and] that tension makes it scarier. And some people are able to just enjoy those by throwing their hands up, being okay with all those changes and all the uncertainties, and saying ‘weee,’” McKellar said as she threw her hands in the air.

“And they’re not experiencing the same thing that the person who is holding on tight is experiencing,” the WONDER YEARS actress continued. “But they’re on the same rollercoaster.”

She points out that anyone can choose what kind of ride they have on their rollercoaster of life. They can have one filled with fear or one filled with joy.

She advises listeners, “Think of your life like that rollercoaster and make a decision. Make a decision when you are feeling overwhelmed. Throw your hands up and say ‘weee’…You know what that is…it’s trusting and being okay with the uncertainty.”

She also highlighted wisdom from Deepak Chopra’s book, “The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success.” He wrote that there can be magnificent things in uncertainty.

“If you’ve lived long enough like I have…you’ll know some of the most wonderful things that happened to you are things you could have planned or would have planned for,” the actress said.

McKellar expressed a similar mentality in 2017 when she said, “The greatest weapon against stress is our ability to choose one thought over another.”

The actress shared in an interview with NPR that, as a teenager, she often got stressed out. All of that changed when she adopted a positive mindset. Music helped her do that.

She said, “The song ‘Vienna’ always made me think of things from a different perspective. I thought, you know what? Just chill out.”

Movieguide® recently reported on how the Great American Family star finds motivation:

“Ever since I found my faith this April, one of the things that help me so much – and it’s a simple thought – if you have Jesus in your life this will resonate… I want to make Jesus proud,” she said. “And I know this sounds corny. It makes me feel so good, I’m almost emotional about it, I don’t understand why.”

“I don’t feel like doing the dishes – you know what, this is going to make Jesus proud. And then I do them. It’s a really amazing thing that I have found,” she continued.
