Grammy Winner Brooke Ligertwood Explains How God Uses ‘The Unknown’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Brooke Ligertwood is sharing the importance of the unknown and how God uses it to work in our lives.

“The Lord allows the unknown in our lives because it has the ministry of minimization. The ministry of minimizing is in the unknown,” she said during an episode of TBN’s BETTER TOGETHER.

Ligertwood then shared the story of Exodus 17, when the Israelites were thirsty and questioning God. Exodus 17:4-6 reads:

4 Then Moses cried out to the Lord, “What am I to do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me.”

5 The Lord answered Moses, “Go out in front of the people. Take with you some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go. 6 I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink.” So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel.

“We can be reminded that the rock that accompanies us in the unknown places, the rock that is Christ…we have access to these promises and to these provisions, not because we’re walking through the season perfectly,” she explained. “I have access to this life, to the water that will sustain me in this wilderness because Jesus already paid the price. I don’t have to earn it.”

Ligertwood also shared a personal story where she and her husband were struggling with the unknown.

“In [a] season where it felt like everything else was unknown, [my husband] had his convictions,” the singer said. “I watched my husband in the season of unknowns not negotiate with his convictions and stay planted in the Word. The harvest now of the seeds he sowed in the darkness that season — we are now walking in some of the fruit of that.”

Ligertwood recently released her sophomore album, “EIGHT.”

“’EIGHT’ was made and fashioned amid a constellation of traumas — some of which continue, others of which we are still trying to catch our breath from,” Ligertwood said of the album. “All that to say, it’s a message from the middle. It’s weird here. But the Lord is still good here.”

Movieguide® previously reported on the project:

The musician released her single, “Fear of God,” prior to the album. She holds this track close to her heart.

“I’ve gotten to write so many songs in my life,” she told The Christin Beat. “Maybe a thousand by now? Not sure. Whatever it is, it’s more than I’ve deserved to. I like most of them, wince at a whole lotta them (taste changes and skill grows but the Internet is forever, God help me), and deeply love a good many of them actually. But there’s a small few that I feel an otherness about. This is one of those. I feel like ‘Fear of God’ is one of the songs I was born to leave here, and that’s just that.”

The album features 11 tracks that are all prayerfully thought out and carefully created.

“With 7 billion career streams and 20 million career album sales, Ligertwood has penned a growing anthology of beloved church anthems like ‘What A Beautiful Name,’ ‘King of Kings,’ and ‘Hosanna,’ and devotional favorites like ‘Awake My Soul,’ ‘New Wine,’ ‘None But Jesus,’ and many more. Her songs have been translated into over 15 languages, and have topped the CCLI chart with two no. 1’s, and several Top 25’s.” The Christian Beat wrote.
