Mark Wahlberg Talks Christianity on THE TODAY SHOW: ‘I Cannot Deny My Faith’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Mark Wahlberg appeared on THE TODAY SHOW during Ash Wednesday to discuss why he is so outspoken about Christianity.

“I don’t want to jam it down anybody’s throat, but I do not deny my faith. That’s an even bigger sin,” he told THE TODAY SHOW in 2023. “You know, it’s not popular in my industry, but, you know, I cannot deny my faith.”

“It’s important for me to share with people,” he continued. “But, I have friends from all walks of life and all different types of faiths and religions, so it’s important to respect and honor them as well.”

Wahlberg’s laid-back approach to spreading the Gospel applies to his kids as well. Instead, he teaches them the importance of Christianity by showing them the importance it has on his life.

“I don’t force it on them,” Wahlberg told THE TODAY SHOW during a different interview. “But they know dad can’t start the day without being in prayer, can’t start the day without reading my Scripture or going to Mass. And hopefully, instead of forcing it on them, they’ll say, ‘Well, if it works for dad, maybe it’ll work for us,’ and they’ll kind of gravitate towards it on their own.”

One of the ways Wahlberg shares his faith is through reminders to his fans to “stay prayed up,” which he frequently posts on social media. He also appeared in a Super Bowl ad for the Hallowed prayer app where he, along with Jonathan Roumie, encouraged fans to download the app and join him in prayer this Lent season.

The Hallow app, which has been downloaded by over 10 million people, saw its largest spike in downloadsever after the commercial aired.

Wahlberg has also begun shifting his focus onto faith-based projects in recent years, including starring in FATHER STU.

Movieguide® previously reported:

Mark Wahlberg says that all of his “personal and professional success” has been because of his faith.

“[My faith] has been very real to me from a very early age,” the actor said in an interview with Eric Metaxas. “I accredit all my personal and professional success to my faith.”

Wahlberg continued, “When I started doing good things, good things started happening for me.”

The FATHER STU actor also shared his future plans for more faith-based projects.

“I definitely am committed to and looking forward to doing more faith-based content and more stuff that just has substance and helps people,” Wahlberg said, adding that he’s “hoping to start a faith-based component and do lots of meaningful stuff — both film [and] television.”
