Surprising Survey Reveals Just How Many of THE CHOSEN’s Viewers Are Christian

A new survey finds that one-third of THE CHOSEN’s viewers are not Christian, demonstrating the show’s impact on today’s popular culture. 

“We recently had some data come through that showed over half [of viewers] were either practicing Christians or cultural Christians. And then about 30% were either curious about Christianity or just no Christian faith. And we were deeply surprised about that,” Katherine Warnock, the vice president of original content with THE CHOSEN, told ChristianHeadlines.

In addition to these findings, Warnock said the survey showed THE CHOSEN has a significant Gen Z audience.

“We were also surprised about the level of Gen Z and younger that were consuming our show — because our core audience is definitely millennial and older,” she said. “But just to see not only the balance between female and males watching our show, which is wonderful — because the church is definitely not that balanced at times — and then to see the younger generation but also the non-Christian faith audience come to the table has been a joy.”

Warnock praised creator Dallas Jenkins and the show’s writers for reaching so many different demographics. 

“When Dallas and the writers say, ‘Hey, we want the world to be introduced to the authentic Jesus’ — they mean it,” she said. 

Warnock also confirmed storylines for upcoming seasons. Season 5 will focus on Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem, Season 6 will tell the story of the crucifixion and Season 7 will concentrate on the resurrection. 

“Yes, we have a Bible, literally, for the show, but we also have a lowercase bible. We have plotted out the seven seasons,” Jenkins said in 2023. “When we started, we knew where we were going. We knew how this would end.”

Jenkins has also shared hopes for a CHOSEN movie, saying“We’re hoping also to potentially do a feature film within that whole storyline, so we’ve got some plans for that that we’re developing now.”

THE CHOSEN’s fourth season is already a big hit with audiences. Movieguide® previously reported:

As storylines crescendo to critical points, THE CHOSEN Season 4’s opening theatrical release drew in a large audience, grabbing the number two spot at this weekend’s box office.

The three-hour sequence of the first three episodes grossed over $6 million across 2,263 theaters nationwide. This set of episodes remains in theaters through Feb. 14 before episodes 4-6 are released. The final two episodes of the season will come to theaters Feb. 29 through March 10 before Angel Studios begins rolling out the entire season across multiple streaming platforms.
