More Detail:
Chapter 3 begins with unicorn riders and unicorns playing on the beach. Layla wants to be like Farafay, a former unicorn rider she admires. She also wants to be in the Sparklebook, which tells magical stories. Layla goes to the Academy for the summer, where she pairs up with her friend, Ava, to research magical plants. While exploring, the girls come to a dark bridge that leads to Grimoria, a forbidden place they’re supposed to avoid. They cross the bridge, and Layla picks an unusual flower that awakens a creepy creature.
Later that night, vines grow from the flower and wrap around Glacier, Layla’s unicorn. This takes away Glacier’s magic. The next morning, strange new flowers and vines are found around campus. The students learn that the vines remove the magic from whatever they touch. Layla calls on a magical map to see how fast roots spread and how bad things look. She goes through a magic portal to visit the evil queen, Ravenzella, and blames her friend, Ava, for the trouble she herself has caused. Queen Ravenzella deceives Layla, telling her to return to Grimoria to find and destroy a magic plant.
The unicorns use magic to kill the plant, but a creepy girl named Tabaditha emerges and wraps Glacier the unicorn with her vines to suck out her magic. Glacier falls to the ground. Tabaditha is free and goes to Unicorn Island in search of more magic. Tabaditha traps the unicorns and takes their magic. Can Layla and the other students stop Tabaditha before it’s too late?
