Matthew West shared how prayer with and for your spouse is a foundation piece of a Christian marriage that keeps it rooted in Christ and allows it to prosper even in difficult times.
“The things that go without saying should still be said. Like, you know, putting Jesus at the center of your marriage and making sure your spouse knows you’re praying for them,” West said. “Those are foundational pieces, there’s no doubt about it.”
Keeping God at the center is the most important part of any marriage and is the advice that most Christian celebrities give when asked for how to keep a marriage strong. This is because a Christian’s life is built upon God, so their marriage must be as well —and through Him, couples can overcome even the toughest of situations if both people submit themselves to the Lord.
“A husband should be the cherry on top of an already beautiful life. He should be a mirror to reflect back to you, someone to chase after God with, and should compliment who God created you to be,” Brittany Lutz, wife of TWILIGHT actor Kellan Lutz, previously said. “He shouldn’t complete you or be the source of your identity.”
Christians also share how they are meant to be in deep relationship with their spouse, which means sharing everything with them, rather than keeping secrets. This, however, can sometimes lead to strife, which is why it is important to anchor your relationship in Christ, rather then something worldly, which could shift or fade away.
“You are meant to be in relationships that bring joy and connection — that help you know soul-deep peace and leave you feeling loved instead of lonely. Instead, surface-level friendships, filtered social media feeds, unresolved conflicts, and unhealthy relationships can often seem to harm our self-worth, spiritual growth, and mental health—and keep us from the very relationships that could bring that true connection,” a summary of Christian and Sadie Robertson Huff’s relationship book reads.

The Bible is also clear about how husbands and wives should view each other and that a strong marriage is one of the sweetest things anyone can experience on this earth.
“A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life,” Solomon writes in Proverbs 31:10-12.
Thus, Christians should do everything to keep their marriages rooted in Christ, lifting each other up in prayer and working to reconcile differences, rather than allowing Satan to split them apart.
