A beautiful new Christian mobile video game, “Serpent and the Seed,” offers players an engaging way to experience the overarching narrative of scripture in a fun new way.
“It’s an adventure game exploring one of the oldest stories in the world, which is the story of the bible. Even if you’re not a Christian, this story has really shaped our world and our culture. It’s the most exciting story in the world. It’s a story of hope for a world crying out for it,” developer Andy Geers told The Gospel Coalition.
The new game does a great job of capturing these culture-defining stories as it walks players through the biblical narrative, from the Garden of Eden, through the Old Testament Heroes, into Jesus’ life and Gospel and finally the coming new creation that Christians are promised as their inheritance.
“The wonderful opportunity of video games, and the real challenge, is the element of choice and freedom. Something that always excited me about the prospect of a Bible adventure game was that you can take a player who’s not necessarily used to reading the Bible, and they can explore at their own pace,” Geers explained.
To appeal to this type of player, he created the game for everyone to enjoy, regardless of age, gender, gaming ability or Bible knowledge.
“The aim is to give you a kind of view of the overarching big Bible storyline from Eden through to Revelation, I suppose. We’re really aiming to make something that absolutely anybody would be interested in,” Geers said in 2022. “So, whether they’re familiar with the Bible or not, we’d love to introduce people to the scripture through it and build that kind of hunger to read more of the Bible but trying to do that in a really kind of fun and engaging way that isn’t cheesy or awkward.”

While Christian video games have been around for a while, like other Christian media, they have often been cheesy and of poorer quality until the past couple of years. Along with Geers, others working on creating high-quality video games that teach Christian or Biblical values include the team behind “Gate Zero” an interactive story set in 1st century Israel and TruPlay, a gaming platform releasing Biblical games for children.
“All of our games are built to be incredibly fun, very high quality, built by gaming professionals who worked at world-class gaming companies, but also games that reveal God’s truth,” Brent Dusing, CEO and founder of TruPlay Games, previously said.
With video games becoming an evermore popular pastime, it is amazing to see how developers are using the platform to spread the Gospel and reach those who may otherwise never engage with Christ.
