A new LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE series is underway on Netflix, but will any stars from the 1974-1983 adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s classic books make an appearance?
Nothing has been confirmed, but several of the former stars have shared they’re open to participating in the upcoming reboot.
Melissa Gilbert, who played Laura Ingalls in the original series, told Entertainment Weekly earlier this year that she’s willing to “talk” about joining.
“I said, ‘I’m just not going to comment. I’m just going to let it be because I want them to have their own thing. And if they need me later, we’ll talk about it,'” she said.
However, Alison Arngrim, who played Nellie Oleson, said, “None of us, as far as I know, our gang, are in at this point. I have been joking for years that I’m finally old enough to play Mrs. Oleson, so call me.”
As of now, the series has an all-new cast, which executive producer Rebecca Sonnenshine is excited about.
“I am absolutely thrilled with the brilliant cast we have assembled,” she said. “Each one of them brings something special to the Little House universe and will help make this story come alive for a whole new generation.”
Inspired by Laura Ingalls Wider’s Little House on the Prairie books which follow her family’s journey as pioneers, the show promises to be “part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West.”
Alice Halsey will play Laura in Netflix’s adaptation, and she couldn’t be more excited.
“I love all of the Little House books so much, and I’m so excited and grateful to get to bring Laura to life! Thank you so much to the Little House creative team for putting your faith in me,” she posted on Instagram.
Other cast members include Luke Bracey as Charles, Crosby Fitzgerald as Caroline and Skywalker Hughes as Mary. Cast members playing new characters include Jocko Sims, Warren Christie, Meegwun Fairbrother, Alyssa Wapanatǎhk, Wren Zhawenim Gotts and Xander Cole.
“Little House on the Prairie has captured the hearts and imaginations of so many fans around the world, and we’re excited to share its enduring themes of hope and optimism with a fresh take on this iconic story,” said Jinny Howe, vice president of drama series at Netflix. “Rebecca’s vision threads the needle with an emotional depth that will delight both new and existing fans of this beloved classic.”
An official release date has not been announced, but many believe it will drop late 2026.
