Danny Reagan will return to our TV screens, but his son Sean will look a little different. The role was recently recast as the characters move from BLUE BLOODS to spin-off BOSTON BLUE.
“Mika Amonsen has been cast as a series regular opposite Donnie Wahlberg on the BLUE BLOODS offshoot, taking over the role of Sean Reagan,” Deadline reported.
Amonsen replaces Andrew Terraciano, who played the recurring role of Sean throughout BLUE BLOODS.
Sources told Deadline the recasting was due to “the character taking a new creative direction on BOSTON BLUE” as he follows the Reagan family into a career in law enforcement. Additionally, adding Sean to the show’s main cast helps to explain Danny’s move from New York to Boston.
BOSTON BLUE follows Danny Reagan as he adjusts to life in Boston, as well as working with new partner Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green).
The show just held its first table read, which Wahlberg marked with an Instagram story, captioned, “A new chapter.”

At a New Kids On The Block event earlier this month, Wahlberg told the audience the show would start production soon, adding, “You know, this is what we’re going to be doing on Fridays until we get back here in November [the show’s premiere date]. Let’s go!”
Speaking to Parade about the spin-off, Wahlberg shared, “It’s going to be a journey and a process for him. He’s with the audience who says, ‘I can’t imagine Danny would move to Boston,’ well, neither can he. He’s with you. He’s going to have to figure this out because it’s a dramatic life change.”
“I’ll just say the journey of developing this show, it’s really fun letting Danny be a fish out of water to be in this new world,” he continued. “It’s also important to remember where he comes from and what the BLUE BLOODS legacy is. We’re keeping all of that at the forefront of our thoughts as we build this thing.”
Wahlberg also teased some potential appearances from BLUE BLOODS characters, saying, “New York and Boston are really close. They’re not that far apart.”
“BLUE BLOODS is important to the audience, it’s important to me, it’s important to Sonequa,” he continued. “She’s a BLUE BLOODS fan. She’s my partner, and she’s a BLUE BLOODS fan. She wants to keep that legacy alive, as well.”
BLUE BLOODS fans are excited to see what BOSTON BLUE has in store for Danny Reagan, from new job challenges to a better look at his relationship with son Sean.
