Country singer Russell Dickerson says he and his wife are “still living off those prayers” from the earliest days of their marriage.
“Pre-kids…we had all the time in the world [to pray],” he said while appearing on Annie Downs’ “That Sounds Fun” podcast. “We were freshly filled with the spirit and just so pumped and just on it. Some days it was just only in the spirit, you know? There’s nothing specifically that we needed the warfare for.”
Dickerson explained that those early days of prayer were “so foundational,” adding, “Sometimes we’re still living off those prayers.”
The singer-songwriter has previously spoken about the role faith has played in his marriage to Kailey Dickerson. The pair wed in 2013.
“My life hasn’t always looked the way I wanted it to,” he told The Christian Post. “But I’ve always seen God’s faithfulness even through trying times. God’s given me a dream and a vision and the strength to carry on. God has always given me the zeal to keep going.”
Even through early struggles, when Dickerson’s label dropped him and Kailey had to start babysitting to supplement the couple’s income, the singer “always sensed God’s faithfulness.”
Today, Dickerson is a successful country artist, with three albums and four number one singles on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. He has another album on the way, called Famous Back Home, due in August.
“Growing up in a small town, I had this idea ‘I’m going to make it out of here. I’m going to make it big. Everybody is going to know my name,’” Dickerson said in a statement about the album. “But then you have a family and it’s like, ‘Actually, all I want to do is be famous at home.’ The further down this road I get, the more I realize the only thing that matters is my family.”
He continued, “I’m so pumped on this one. It’s just song by song,” Dickerson said. “To go from Yours [his debut album] to where we are now, it’s opened up a whole new facet of me and my personality. What you get on stage is so connected to these songs — it finally caught up to my personality, who I am.”
Dickerson is currently on tour, which he called “the dream I’ve been dreaming in my heart since I was 19” in a recent Instagram post.

“I’ve poured my heart into every single song I’ve ever recorded and the fact that yall feel that is the simple beauty of music,” he added.
From Dickerson’s initial struggles in the music industry to his massive success today, the country star has always understood the importance of prioritizing prayer.
