SPIDER-MAN: BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE just secured a Father’s Day weekend release in 2027, a few weeks later than its originally slated June 4, 2027, date.

Now debuting June 18, the animated web-slinger flick will hit theaters alongside Disney/Pixar’s GATTO.

According to Deadline, Sony announced that SPIDER-MAN: BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE will shift its “release date a week earlier to Father’s Day weekend, a rich time for animated movies and historically occupied by Pixar movies. As we know, Pixar originals haven’t been faring well post-COVID, with ELIO recently crashing to a $20.8 million domestic start, finaling at $73M stateside and just more than $154M worldwide.”

BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE picks up where ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE left off — “Gwen Stacy and Miles Morales’ friends may or may not be enough to save everyone,” IGN reported. It’s directed by Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson.

“We have had the immense privilege of being part of Miles’ journey from the very beginning, and directing the conclusion to his story is beyond exciting,” Persichetti and Thompson told Deadline in 2024. “The creativity and care poured into every minute of this project has been truly inspiring. We have crafted what we feel is a very satisfying ending, and we can’t wait for fans to experience it — we’re bringing everything we’ve got!”

“Bob and Justin’s fingerprints are woven into the DNA of these films, and their passion for Miles’ journey shines through in every frame of his last adventure,” producer Phil Lord and Chad Miller said of the directors. “There is nothing more rewarding than collaborating with creative partners with bold vision and brilliant execution like Bob and Justin. We are thrilled to work with them once again to create a beautiful and satisfying conclusion to this story.”

“We’re very happy to officially announce the directorial duo behind the final chapter of the Spider-Verse saga. Bob, Justin, and the entire filmmaking team have been hard at work crafting something truly spectacular, and we’ve been blown away by what we’ve seen so far – there’s more work ahead to bring Miles’ story to a satisfying close and we are confident that they are perfect pair to pull it off,” Kristine Belson, President of Sony Pictures Animation, added.

The voice cast featuring Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jason Schwartzman, Karan Soni, Daniel Kaluuya and Nicolas Cage will return for BEYOND THE SPIDER-VERSE.

Though fans aren’t excited by the delays, Father’s Day weekend 2027 promises to be an exciting weekend at theaters.
