THE CHOSEN’s Jonathan Roumie took fans behind-the-scenes into his workout routine to get in shape for the upcoming sixth season of the hit Bible show.

“The last time I was truly in shape was when I got ready for a movie called JESUS REVOLUTION,” he said in a video for Men’s Health. “Training for THE CHOSEN to play Jesus for this season, I’ve dropped about 20 to 25 pounds over the course of the last year trying to get in shape for Season 6 of THE CHOSEN.”

Roumie shared that, with the help of a trainer, he has been focusing on simple exercises that don’t require a lot of elaborate gym equipment. One of the main things he’s been doing is just walking every day, working to hit 10,000 steps.

The actor also shared that having the right mindset is just as important.

“The details matter. The little things matter,” Roumie said, pointing to the importance of “sleep quality” for him, especially as he’s gotten older.

When asked if being in shape is helpful as an actor, Roumie replied, “100%. The better in shape you are, the better you move, the more confident you are…you feel better about yourself.”

Roumie has spoken about the challenging nature of the upcoming new episodes of THE CHOSEN, which will include Jesus’ crucifixion.

“It’s been the most difficult thing we’ve ever done. And for many of us as actors, it was the most challenging work that we’ve ever had to do,” he told USA Today. “For many of us, spiritually and emotionally, it was excruciating; it was brutal.”

Roumie continued, “You’re on a cross. You’re pretty much in nothing but a loin cloth, and the temperature drops at night. And for me, it’s an entering into Christ’s suffering in a way that has to go far enough for me personally to be believably authentic to an audience. So there’s a certain amount of communion in that suffering that I end up experiencing, because that’s the only way to do this job.”

THE CHOSEN’s creator Dallas Jenkins made similar comments, telling CBN News, “Season 6 is going to be the most devastating, obviously, season we’ve ever done.”

Season 6 of THE CHOSEN just wrapped filming in Texas, according to the show’s official Instagram page. No premiere date has been released yet, but PEOPLE reported the season’s finale will be shown in theaters March 12, 2027. We can’t wait!
