Fans of Mike Holmes were treated to an incredible surprise when HGTV announced he had a new show hitting the air less than a day before its premiere.
“Happy to announce that my new series HOLMES ON HOMES: BUILDING A LEGACY premiers tomorrow on HGTV US. I hope you love the episodes as much as we loved filming them,” Holmes wrote on Instagram. “This series is all about the future – sharing the knowledge I’ve gained over four decades with a new generation of skilled tradespeople – my own kids @sherryholmes @mikeholmesjr.”
The series sees Holmes working on his trade with his kids who have followed him into the home restoration business. However, more than just focusing on making money, Holmes has made it a priority in his career to do things right so families can enjoy these homes for decades.

“I’ve loved construction my whole life. And the great thing is I’ve built a construction business to ‘make it right’ for hundreds of homeowners over the years,” he said in a teaser video posted by HGTV. “I’ve taught my kids, Michael and Sherry, that each project is more than just a renovation. We’re a family helping other families. That’s what building a legacy means to me.”
Holmes has worked with his kids on previous shows as well, including a show that premiered this summer: HOLMES FAMILY RESCUE. That series followed the family as they worked to make things right after homes were damaged or destroyed by other handymen.
“Mike, Michael and Sherry understand how disruptive a bad renovation can be for a family,” Loren Ruch, group senior vice president, programming & development for HGTV, said about the show. “They are compelling experts who care about their clients and aim to give them a beautiful and safe place to live, which our viewers love to see.”
Fans of Holmes love how passionate he is about construction while also caring about the people that he is working for to provide them with everything they want in a beautiful, sustainable build. He also hosts a podcast where he discusses the hottest things in the home renovation space.
“I’m sitting down with some of the brightest minds in homebuilding and construction innovation,” he said of his podcast. “This season covers topics ranging from legal ways to build and rent out a basement to how 3D printing would benefit construction to the shortage of trade worker.
“I’m also going to be joined by my children as they talk over my podcast as we look at some of the old projects we worked on, learnings and what not to do, and some fun family trivia,” Holmes added.
With the surprise announcement breaking the news just before its launch, HOLMES ON HOMES: BUILDING A LEGACY is now available.
